Abstract: Hydraulic or industrial functional fluids which exhibit excellent demulse performance are prepared comprising at least one oil-soluble polyoxypropylene glycol monoalkyl ether.
Abstract: Use of at least one friction modifier to reduce micropitting of a metal surface, which comprises lubricating the metal surface with a lubricant composition comprising the at least one friction modifier, wherein the at least one friction modifier is selected such that micropitting is reduced when the metal surface is so lubricated.

Abstract: This invention relates to low sulfur fuel compositions which exhibit improved lubricity compared to the low sulfur fuels alone. The low sulfur fuel compositions contain a middle distillate fuel having a sulfur content of 0.2% by weight or less, a carboxylic acid amide and at least one member selected from the group consisting of cold flow improvers, ashless dispersants, and mixtures thereof.
Abstract: Low sulfur content fuel compositions containing additive compounds are described which exhibit improved lubricity. The additive compounds include a carboxylic acid substituted by at least one hydroxyl group, derivatives of the carboxylic acid substituted by at least one hydroxyl group, and an ester which is the reaction product of a carboxylic acid which does not contain any hydroxy-substitution in the acid backbone and an alkanolamine.
Abstract: Hydrocarbonaceous fuels and additive compositions therefor which comprise: a) one or more fuel-soluble manganese carbonyl compounds; and b) one or more fuel-soluble alkali or alkaline earth metal-containing neutral or basic detergent salts. These compositions preferably contain, in addition to components a) and b) above, one or more of the following: c) one or more fuel-soluble ashless dispersants; d) at least one fuel-soluble demulsifying agent; e) at least one aliphatic or cycloaliphatic amine; and f) at least one metal deactivator. The compositions possess improved combustion characteristics (e.g., formation of less soot, smoke, carbonaceous products and/or noxious emissions), and form on combustion carbonaceous products of reduced acidity. The deposition of sludge on critical engine or burner parts or surfaces is reduced and the fuels have improved stability and demulsibility characteristics. And the fuel compositions can result in decreased fuel consumption in diesel engines.
Abstract: Amine salts of phosphorothioic acids, useful for example in lubricant compositions, are made by forming a mixture of sulphur and an amine, and then adding a phosphite ester. The reaction is controlled by the rate of addition of the ester.
Abstract: A friction reducing additive composition comprising a long chain succinimide derivative and a long chain amide has superior friction reducing properties, especially in wet brake systems for tractors and other vehicles.
Abstract: Lubricant compositions, especially suitable for limited slip differentials, containing sulphur-containing extreme pressure or anti-wear agents, are improved by incorporation of a substituted succinimide friction modifier. The resulting compositions reduce the level of noise produced during operation of the differential.
