  • Patent number: 6576037
Abstract: The invention concerns a pre-alloyed metal powder consisting essentially of tungsten and/or molybdenum, at least one transition metal selected among iron, cobalt, nickel and copper, and optionally at least one additive, the iron content being less than 50 wt. % and the total additive content being less than 3 wt. %, relative to the total weight of metals, said pre-alloyed metal powder having elementary grain size measured with scanning electron microscope, greater than 200 nm and less than 5 micrometers. The invention also concerns a sintered part obtained with such a powder. The invention is particularly applicable for producing sintered parts to be used as electric contacts, heat sinks, spark machining electrodes, mechanical balance weights, inertial units, tool-holders, anti-radiation screen, armament components, sintered steel or diamond charged cutting or grinding tools or with titanium carbide.

  • Patent number: 5529804
Abstract: A process for the production of hard materials wherein hard constituent powders are coated with cobalt and/or nickel metal in solution by reducing the metals from a suitable compound such as an oxide, hydroxide or salt with a polyol while keeping the powder in suspension. The polyol functions both as a solvent and a reducing agent at the same time and is present in an amount of at least 5 times more moles polyol than moles metal. There is obtained an even distribution of the cobalt and/or nickel over the surface of the hard constituent powder without the formation of islands of pure metal.

  • Patent number: 4512612
Abstract: This invention relates to a system for mounting tooth-carrier sectors on a cutter wheel or a milling-cutter drum (or coal-cutter drum) permitting the rapid mounting of the sectors, as well as a change in the direction of operation of the wheel or drum about its axis. The supports (2) attached to the wheel (1) by their base are delimited by two lateral surfaces (4) and by one upper surface (3), which rest on the yoke-shaped base of the tooth-carrier sectors (8). The support (2) has a shape which is symmetrical with respect to its axis (7), and its lateral surfaces (4) form with the perpendicular to the axis (7) an angle (.alpha.) which is less than 90.degree. at their outer end. The sector (8) is closed on the side which rests against the front surface (4) during operation. The sector (8) is attached to its support, for example by means of an elastic dog (11).

  • Patent number: 4265007
Abstract: A tool for rasping comprising a cylindrical drum rotatable in both directions around an axis, the drum being equipped with cutting elements which protrude exteriorly and are able to act in the two directions of rotation. The cutting elements are mounted on a series of movable bars disposed on the exterior surface of the drum parallel to the axis, each one of these bars having at least one transverse row of cutting elements. Each cutting element of a same row displays two parallel cutting edges provided at opposite acute angles with respect to the axis of the drum. The cutting elements of each of the rows present cutting edges which are essentially equal to those of adjacent rows but oppositely directed. The bars possess means for quick assembly onto the drum. The tool is used in preparing the exterior surface of a tire for retreading.

  • Patent number: 4128933
Abstract: The invention relates to a process of making small diameter non-skid metallic studs, for tires, composed of a hard material small rod and of a metallic sheath having an elongated longitudinal axis. The sheath includes a fitting or mounting socket for the small rod, at least one small anchoring collar, and a narrowed intermediate section of smaller diameter than the lower and upper adjacent sections. The process comprises forming a sintered rough shaped sheath of at least 85% of theoretical or maximum density which sheath includes the rod's fitting; introducing the small rod in its fitting, leaving an empty space less than 0.6 mm between the rod and the fitting's base; and bringing the sheath to its final shape through trimming or rolling, in particular, in the narrowed section, while holding tightly the sheath's section surrounding the small rod.
