A device creates a seal to prevent the flow of blood during the treatment of vascular disease. An elongated device having a distal portion extending from the catheter and having a fluid impermeable membrane disposed about at least the distal end of the device is used to seal the vessel. The system includes a device to occlude blood flow and a distal protection device to filter or remove embolic debris.

    Abstract: A renal stent includes a balloon expandable segment intended for deployment in the renal vessel and a self expanding segment intended for deployment in the aortic segment. One or both of the balloon expandable and self expanding segments can be deployed in the ostial region of the renal vessel, typically the renal artery. The balloon expandable segment provides superior radial strength for maintaining dilated diameter of the renal vessel. The self expanding segment expands to conform to the flared ostial and aortic regions of the vessel. The self expanding segment can be balloon dilated to enhance conformance of the self expanding stented segment to the ostial and aortic regions.

    Abstract: The invention provides a device for filtering emboli from blood flowing through a lumen defined by the walls of a vessel in a patient's body comprising a filter element. The filter element is expandable from a collapsed configuration when the filter element is restrained to an expanded configuration when the filter element is unrestrained. When the filter element is in the expanded configuration, the average pore size is from 30 to 300 microns and the standard deviation of the pore size is less than 20 percent of the average pore size. The filter element has two or more filtering layers, each filtering layer having pores, each filtering layer being adjacent to at least one other filtering layer, and at least one of the filtering layers being made of a self-expanding material.

    Abstract: A medical implant delivery system maintains an orientation between a guidewire lumen of an inner member of the system and a rapid-exchange port in an outer member. The medical device is disposed intermediate the inner and outer members and in friction or pressure-fit contact with the outer member. Once the guidewire lumen of the inner member and the rapid exchange port of the outer member are oriented, the friction or pressure-fit operates to maintain the orientation until deployment of the medical implant. Orientation is further maintained by a telescoping coupling of the guide wire lumen with the rapid exchange port.

These loops are attached to the first membrane to define taut fabric petals when the first disk is in a deployed configuration. A central portion of the first membrane is joined to the central portion of the second membrane via a joining segment, which may comprise a conjoint disk. The flexible joints of the first frame are received within the joining segment. This septal defect closure device provides enhanced retrievability.
