Abstract: A power line coupling and decoupling circuit for furthering peripheral system reliability. The circuit is used in a computer system which includes a host computer attached to a peripheral system via a SCSI communication interface. A light emitting diode is used as a monitor to indicate the power level on the SCSI interface. A mechanical slide switch is used to then couple or decouple a peripheral system's power source and the SCSI interface thus preventing electrical short circuits and current surges within the peripheral system. The SCSI interface receives its power directly from the peripheral power source and not from a peripheral device assembled within the peripheral system.
Abstract: An electronic system having a plurality of electronic devices contained in a plurality of stackable enclosures is provided. Each of the plurality of stackable enclosures is stackable and interlockable together with another one of the plurality of stackable enclosures. Each of the plurality of stackable enclosures comprises a housing having a top surface and a bottom surface. A first plurality of projections are provided to extend upwardly from the top surface. The first plurality of projections are spaced to define a first group of grooves therebetween. A second plurality of projections are provided to extend downwardly from the bottom surface. The second plurality of projections are spaced to define a second group of grooves therebetween. Each of the second group of grooves corresponds to a respective one of the first plurality of projections. Each of the first group of grooves corresponds to a respective one of the second plurality of projections.
Abstract: A portable personal computer is provided that includes a main housing having a base and an upper housing erecting on top of the base for containing circuitry of the portable personal computer. The base contains a power supply unit for the computer. The upper housing includes a top end and an inner wall. A display is pivotally attached to the upper housing adjacent the top end of the upper housing such that the display is held against the inner wall of the upper housing in a closed position. A detachable keyboard is provided which has a top row and a bottom row for inputting data into the portable personal computer. The keyboard is mounted onto the portable personal computer and covers the display in the closed position such that the computer constitutes an integrated entity. The keyboard is removed from the computer in an open position for operation. The display is exposed when the keyboard is removed from the computer. The display can swing away from the inner wall of the upper housing in the open position.

Abstract: A high performance light valve for optimizing the switching of a liquid crystal on an area basis. The light valve uses a transparent charge separation layer to allow for the accumulation of photo-generated charges. The light valve concentrates the light absorption in a narrow charge generation region where high electric fields are present from the junction of dissimilar semiconductor materials. The light valve has a switching characteristic dominated by the light and dark carrier densities in a narrow reversed biased region.
