  • Publication number: 20250347015
Abstract: The present application relates to components for use in an electrolysis cell and/or stack comprising features, geometry, and materials to overcome prior art limitations related to cell electrical isolation, fluid sealing, and high speed manufacturing. The electrolysis cell comprises a membrane, an anode, a cathode, an anode flow field, a cathode flow field, and a bipolar plate assembly comprising an embedded hydrogen seal and both conductive and non-conductive areas. The components are cut using two-dimensional patterns from substantially flat raw materials capable of being sourced in roll form. These substantially two-dimensional components are processed to create a fully unitized, three-dimensional electrolysis cell with a hermetically sealed cathode chamber.

  • Patent number: 12416089
Abstract: The present invention relates to modular packages of individual electrolyzer stack units arranged to overcome prior art limitations related to power supply costs, as-manufactured stack unit performance variation, operating stack unit performance variation, and operational reliability. The electrolyzer stack module comprises an even number of individual stack units wired in series-parallel and arranged to minimize variation between branches of series-connected stack pairs.

  • Publication number: 20230374674
Abstract: An electrolyzer stack is configured for high-speed manufacturing and assembly of a plurality of scalable electrolysis cells. Each cell comprises a plurality of water windows configured to maintain a pressure loss, temperature rise and/or oxygen outlet volume fraction below predetermined thresholds. Repeating components of the cells are configured based on a desired roll web width for production and a stack compression system is configured to enable a variable quantity and variable area of said repeating cells in a single stack. A high-speed manufacturing system is configured to produce scalable cells and assemble scalable stacks at rates in excess of 1,000 MW-class stacks per year.
