Abstract: A method and a distributed locking system for the management of lock resources in a distributed files system having several lock managers, each managing lock resources in its respective domain. Each lock manager maintains a registry lock file that comprises of a list of all locked files and a list of lock requests. The registry lock files of all lock managers in the distributed locking system are saved in a central database. Furthermore, the system enables concurrent locking operations of different file sharing protocols on the same file system resources.

Abstract: A method for performing a snapshot in a distributed shared file system (DSFS) is provided. The method includes synchronizing a snapshot operation among a plurality of domains of the DSFS; writing pending write requests to a memory to suspend write operations for the domains of the DSFS; and after the writing the pending write requests, generating a snapshot file comprising data items representing a current state of the DSFS.

Abstract: A method and system are provided for file system backup using multiple backup devices in parallel. The system stores files across the backup devices, by first copying small files of sizes below a calculated threshold size, and then splitting into segments those files that are larger then the calculated threshold size. For each file segment, the system affixes a unique segment header. At restore time, a restore program starts the restore from the first file segment and follows to the next file segment according to information specified in the file segment header.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for distributing information between processes executing on a computer node and across clusters of computer nodes. The system also provides for querying the system database to request historical system information. A process can receive specific information by registering in the system database under a category that represents the desired type of system information.
