    Abstract: An apparatus for protecting an optical device from contamination includes a window disposed between the optical device and a contaminating environment, the window is rotatable about a rotational axis and includes a spherical surface. A bezel encloses a portion of the surface and defines a clear aperture for transmission of electromagnetic radiation. A seal extends around the clear aperture and conforms to the surface. An actuator causes relative rotation between the window and the bezel to move the surface with regards to the bezel. The seal dispenses a film onto portions of the surface that enter the clear aperture during rotation, the film being operable to reduce bonding of contaminants to the surface while transmitting the electromagnetic radiation to or from the optical device. The seal is configured to dislodge contaminants entrained in the film or adhered to portions of the surface moving out of the clear aperture during rotation.
