Patent number: 7532540Abstract: A shaft protection washer to protect a rotating shaft in a “measurement while drilling” (MWD) tool. Use of the shaft protection washer renders the rotating shaft less susceptible to erosion from the drilling fluid flowing between the rotating component and the stationary component.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2006Date of Patent: May 12, 2009Assignee: Extreme Engineering Ltd.Inventors: Anthony R. Dopf, Trang Le, Derek Logan, Timothy Neff, Wendall Siemens, Dave Switzer

Patent number: 7462957Abstract: An electronic switching circuit system designed to be compatible with coaxial barrel style plug and socket connectors. Specific plug and socket contacts utilize a simple electronic device that causes the switching circuit associated with either or both the plug and socket to be activated only when the plug and socket pair is fully engaged.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2003Date of Patent: December 9, 2008Assignee: Extreme Engineering Ltd.Inventors: Paul L. Camwell, Wendall L. Siemens, Derek W. Logan, Jili Liu

Publication number: 20080191900Abstract: A gap sub assembly can be used to form an electrical isolation in a drill string, across which a voltage is applied to generate a carrier signal for an electromagnetic (EM) telemetry system. The assembly comprises two conductive generally cylindrical components fashioned with a matching set of male and female rounded coarse threads, held such that a relatively uniform interstitial space is formed in the overlap space between them. The third component is a substantially dielectric electrical isolator component placed into the gap between the threads that effectively electrically isolates the two conductive components. Injecting the dielectric material under high pressure forms a tight bond resistant to the ingress of conductive drilling fluids (liquids, gases or foam), thus forming a high pressure insulating seal.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 13, 2007Publication date: August 14, 2008Applicant: Extreme Engineering Ltd.Inventors: Paul L. Camwell, Derek W. Logan, David D. Whalen, Thomas H. Vermeeren, Anthony R. Dopf

Patent number: 7182695Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a ride for providing an upward boost to a participant jumping up and down. The flexible rods of this disclosure may be articulated by a base thereby imparting tension in the flexible rods, and providing an upward force to a participant jumping up and down. Additionally, elastic pods may be provided, allowing participants to bounce upward in a addition to the lift provided by the flexible members, thereby enhancing the participant's experience.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 2004Date of Patent: February 27, 2007Assignee: Extreme EngineeringInventors: David Tostenson, Jeffrey Dean Wilson

Patent number: 6902414Abstract: A rotatable plug and socket for establishing electrical communication in a hazardous environment, each of said plug and socket having biased slidable protective members covering electrical contacts on each of said plug and socket, which are each slidably displaced during mating engagement of the plug with the socket. The slidable protective members ensure protection of the electrical contacts on each of the plug and socket members when such plug and socket connectors are not engaged, or not fully engaged.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2003Date of Patent: June 7, 2005Assignee: Extreme Engineering Ltd.Inventors: Anthony R. Dopf, Derek W. Logan, David Switzer

Patent number: 6816053Abstract: A dual transformer design, each transformer having at least a primary winding and a secondary winding disposed on a core means, wherein the core means is circumferentially disposed about an inner housing means, and the whole structure located within an outer housing. The primary winding of one transformer of said pair of transformers is electrically coupled to the primary winding of the other in a manner such as to cause induced eddy currents from one transformer to be of a magnitude and direction so as to substantially cancel the induced eddy currents from the other transformer.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 2003Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignee: Extreme Engineering Ltd.Inventors: Paul L. Camwell, Wendall L. Siemens

Publication number: 20040145970Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for receiving downhole acoustic signals, processing the signals into electric signals, then transmitting the signals wirelessly to a remote above-surface monitoring station. The apparatus is mountable to an above-surface rotatable component used in borehole application. The apparatus includes an instrument housing, and a clamping assembly attached to the housing and having sufficient length and flexibility to enable the apparatus to surround the perimeter of the rotatable component.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 28, 2003Publication date: July 29, 2004Applicant: Extreme Engineering Ltd.Inventors: Anthony R. Dopf, Paul L. Camwell, Wendall L. Siemens, Derek W. Logan

Patent number: 6659496Abstract: A trailer with a base having a front, a rear, and an axle. An upper frame pivotably coupled to the base frame and longer than the base frame. A towing tongue is coupled to the front of the upper frame.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2001Date of Patent: December 9, 2003Assignee: Extreme Engineering, L.L.C.Inventor: Jeffrey Dean Wilson

Patent number: 6390952Abstract: The invention provides improved climbing devices and structures for use in mobile and fixed climbing installations. Modular climbing towers are generally assembled from panels having lateral curves by fastening upper and lower flanges of the panels together. The panels and flanges are integrally molded from fiberglass, and act as a monocoque structure. The climbing surface is on the radially outward portion of the partially or fully enclosed tower, thereby increasing the number of climbers that can safely be accommodated on a climbing surface of a given width. The invention also provides belaying devices for safely supporting a climber at the end of a flexible member such as a cable, rope, or the like. These belaying devices generally draw in the flexible member as the climber climbs. When the climber falls or completes the climbing route, the belay device supports the climber's weight, slowly and safely lowering the climber down to the ground.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1999Date of Patent: May 21, 2002Assignee: Extreme Engineering LLCInventor: Jeffrey D.
