  • Patent number: 10098405
Abstract: Multi-axis quick-release gimbal hinges that releasably attach a face protector to a helmet. The hinges allow the face protection to be easily and quickly released from the as-worn position to a position hanging from the other side of the helmet—even if the user has only a single hand free to release the face protector, and further to be fully detached from the helmet if desired. The present multi-axis quick-release gimbal comprise at least two degrees of freedom due to two gimbal hinges and also facilitate re-attachment compared to former systems, for example because the dual-gimbal hinge configuration holds the face protector in a particularly easy-access positions and/or by providing a rotational stop.

  • Patent number: 10076149
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods, etc., that provide, in certain aspects, a two-point, adjustable, partially pliable, and releasable tensioning suspension that supports an anti-blunt-force frame connected to a protective helmet. The protective devices herein can be, for example, “sport-level” and “military/law enforcement-level.” The anti-blunt-force frame is positioned and balanced on the wearer's face by an impact absorbing face padding system, including a chin strap, cup or pad comprised of an impact protection material. Thus, in one aspect, the present devices, systems, methods, etc., include an adjustable facial protection system for a human comprising a crescent-shaped face protection element configured to withstand blunt force impact and a ballistic material element to prevent the penetration of ballistic and fragmentation projectiles at various force levels to meet different ballistic hazards. The systems can also include a protective helmet.

  • Publication number: 20120222201
Abstract: A removable goggle frame that may be releasably fastened to a goggle having a frame that retains a lens is provided. The removable frame may be stiffer (harder) than the goggle frame, and, when fastened to the goggle, may protect the goggle from damage cause by undesirable impacts by shielding the goggle frame and/or stiffening the goggle frame. The removable frame may also be more flexible (softer) than the goggle frame, and, when fastened to the goggle, may provide a more comfortable fit for the user. A removable drape that may be releasably fastened to a releasably attached frame is also provided. The drape may be configured to hang below the goggle to protect the user's face when worn, and to be releasably fastened over the lens to protect the lens when the user places the goggle elsewhere, such on his/her helmet as he/she wears the helmet.

  • Patent number: 6047410
Abstract: An improved goggle system includes a goggle housing surroundably supporting one or two lenses, and further includes a hinged strap attachment member which is pivotally engaged to the goggle housing forward of the rearward most extent of the side lens or lenses. The hinged strap attachment member has a small shield member disposed generally toward the axis of pivot to protect the space between the hinge and the goggle, and also to provide a smooth interfit with the goggle when the hinge is displaced back toward the head of the wearer, as when the goggle is used without a helmet or other structure which would tend to pull outwardly rather than back against the head of the user. The hinges have sufficient flexibility matched with respect to sufficient pin length to enable the hinges to be rapidly and easily removed from the goggle, so that the goggle could be removed from the helmet or other support system when the goggles are needed elsewhere.
