  • Patent number: 9262064
Abstract: Receipt of user input may be facilitated using a handheld computing platform with an integrated pressure sensor. Exemplary implementations may allow a user to simply squeeze the handheld computing platform in order to control one or more aspects of operation of the handheld computing platform. That is, instead of tapping a touch screen or pressing buttons, a user may merely need to apply compressive pressure to the handheld computing platform by applying opposing forces to opposing surfaces of the handheld computing platform. By way of non-limiting example, the one or more aspects of operation controlled by squeezing the handheld computing platform may include one or more of input of a value, selection from a menu, manipulation of a virtual object, entry of a password or a code, interaction with a fitness program, interaction with a rehabilitation and/or medical treatment program, interaction with a game, and/or other aspects of operation.

  • Patent number: 9230064
Abstract: A personal wellness device comprise two housing bodies, a force sensor, a user interface, one or more processors, and/or other components. A first housing body and a second housing body may be movably coupled together by way of a coupling mechanism such that the two housing bodies are reconfigurable between an open configuration and a closed configuration. The force sensor may be configured to generate a force output signal that conveys information related to compressive force exerted on the two housing bodies while in the closed configuration. The user interface may be accessible with the two housing bodies in the open configuration. The one or more processors may be configured to execute one or more computer program modules, including a presentation module configured to present, via the user interface, information associated with compressive force exerted on the two housing bodies, the information being derived from the force output signal.

Abstract: A volumetric body may be formed of two curved surfaces. The volumetric body may comprise a first surface and a second surface, both being configured to be joined together at a single curved seam to substantially enclose a volume. The first surface may be shaped as an area of a lateral surface of a first cylinder having a first longitudinal axis and a first radius. The second surface may be shaped as an area of a lateral surface of a second cylinder having a second longitudinal axis and a second radius. The seam may be shaped based on an intersection of the first cylinder and the second cylinder when the first longitudinal axis and the second longitudinal axis are noncoplanar, are perpendicular in orthogonal projection, and have a nearest distance that is less than a sum of the first radius and the second radius.

  • Publication number: 20140335494
Abstract: Coaching and/or analysis of pressure-based treatment may be facilitated by a handheld treatment device. A force exerted on a body part of a subject may be quantified. The force may be exerted by a force exerting object (e.g., a hand) on the treatment device disposed between the force exerting object and the body part of the subject. The force may be applied as the pressure-based treatment. A position of the body part on the body of the subject may be determined based on the position of the treatment device relative to the body of the subject. Various parameters associated with the pressure-based treatment may be determined. Instructions associated with the pressure-based treatment may be provided via the treatment device. A given instruction may relate to a magnitude of the exerted force and/or a position on the body of the subject where the force is to be applied.
