  • Publication number: 20020034826
Abstract: An optical-chemical sensor which is suitable for the continuous and discontinuous determination by luminescence optics of the concentration of chloride in an aqueous sample and which comprises a luminescence indicator (I) and a polymer (H) carrying the luminescence indicator (I) is characterized in that the luminescence indicator (I) is a non-lipophile acridine or bisacridine compound and the polymer (H) is a linear-chain hydrophile polymer soluble in an organic solvent, whereby it is possible to excite the sensor by commercially available LEDs, to manufacture very large numbers thereof at a moderate cost and in a reproducible way and, preferably, to use it for the determination of physiological chloride concentrations and the sensor furthermore has a wide dynamic measuring range for the determination of chloride; a high sensitivity, stability and reproducibility; a high selectivity for chloride; and a low pH cross-sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 6346379
Abstract: Modified thermostable DNA polymerases having enhanced efficiency for incorporating unconventional nucleotides such as those labeled with fluorescein family dyes are advantageous in many in vitro DNA synthesis applications. Such enzymes are particularly useful for use in chain termination nucleic acid sequencing protocols, as are native forms of such enzymes. Genes encoding the modified enzymes and methods for their production and use offer cost and efficiency advantages for DNA sequencing.

  • Patent number: 6345191
Abstract: A system for quantitative determination of the local distribution of a quantity to be measured, comprising a planar sensor film, which is applied to a measuring surface, such as the surface of a body organ, a skin area or a cell culture, and whose diffusion properties regarding a parameter to be determined are known. The sensor film contains a luminescent indicator responding to the parameter to be determined with a change of at least one optical property. The system further comprises an excitation and detection unit including means for supplying excitation radiation of at least one wavelength, an imaging detection means, preferably a CCD camera, and an evaluation unit processing the image information obtained from the excitation and detection unit. Further provided is an applicator tube to be placed on the measuring surface, whose rim facing the measuring surface is in elastic contact with the sensor film and is impervious to external radiation interfering with the detection means.
