  • Patent number: 6039509
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a mining support for supporting rock within a mine. The mining support is constructed of a cable and means for mixing resin in a resin cartridge as the cable is inserted into a bore hole drilled in the rock which the resin cartridge is disposed. In a preferred embodiment, the mixing means is comprised of a helical mixing strand which is fixedly attached to one end of the cable. The mining support can include a drive ferrule, swaged onto the cable, for driving the end of the cable into the bore hole. In a preferred embodiment, the drive ferrule is threaded and there is included a hex nut washer and contact plate for tensioning the cable after the resin has set. The present invention also pertains to a drive tool for driving a metal cable having drive ferrules disposed in proximity to either end of the cable into a bore hole containing a resin cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5647694
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a mining support for supporting rock within a mine. The support includes a cable and a threaded shaft fixedly attached to a first end of the cable. There is also an expansion anchor threadingly engaged about the threaded shaft for anchoring against the rock within a bore hole and means for bearing against the rock at the opening of the bore hole. The bearing means preferably includes a second collar having a threaded portion on which a hex nut is mounted and a contact plate for bearing against the rock. Preferably, there is a first collar for fixedly attaching the cable to the threaded shaft. Alternatively, the threaded shaft has a cavity for engaging with the cable. In a preferred embodiment, the mining support includes means for mixing resin in a resin cartridge. The mixing means is positioned about a portion of the cable. The mixing means preferably includes a helical wire strand that wraps about a portion of the cable.

  • Patent number: 5387060
Abstract: The present invention is a system for supporting rock within a mine having a bore hole. The system comprises a mining bolt having a round metal tube which has a completely hollow interior and all cross sectional dimensions less than that of the bore hole. The metal tube has a first end and a second end which are swaged closed to permanently close off the completely hollow interior so the bolt can crush and deform during movement of the rock when in place therein. The swaged second end has a square cross section to allow a tool to turn the mining bolt in the bore hole from the second end. The mining bolt has a metal washer flange fixedly attached to the metal tube adjacent to the swaged second end. The system also comprises a bearing plate disposed between the rock and the flange and a resin cartridge for bonding the mining bolt to the rock within the bore hole.

  • Patent number: 5114278
Abstract: A mining bolt for holding rock comprised of an elongate shaft at least a portion of which has threads. The threads directly thread into the rock and are capable of supporting the bolt under tension in the rock. The mining bolt is also comprised of a flange system disposed about the shaft in proximity to one end thereof such that when the shaft is threaded into the rock, the flange system abuts under tension the rock's face. A method for holding rock in a mine comprising the steps of drilling a bore hole into the rock; and inserting the shaft of a mining bolt into the bore hole. The shaft has a flange system disposed about the shaft in proximity to the end thereof. The shaft has threads and is of a length longer than the length of the bore hole. There is also the step of screwing the shaft into the rock at the top of the bore hole such that the threads of the shaft penetrate into the rock and the flange abuts under tension the rock face.
