Abstract: A method of treatment of diseases of viral origin is disclosed. The method comprises oral or parenteral administration of an antiviral amount of a naturally occurring secoiridoid from plants of the family Oleaceae or derivatives thereof. Preferred oral dosage forms include the secoiridoid oleuropein in pure form or as a component of dried plant material of Olea europaea or a dried extract thereof and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
