Patent number: 7998160Abstract: A lancing device is provided for use with a removable lancet. The lancing device includes a housing and a lancet carrier slidably disposed within the housing and adapted to receive the lancet. A user-actuated ejection slide is mounted to the housing to eject the lancet from the lancet carrier. A locking member is pivotally mounted to the housing. As the ejection slide moves forward, it rotates the locking member to block forward movement of the lancet carrier during ejection. The locking member is configured so that substantially all of the force exerted on it by the lancet carrier is transmitted to the housing via the pivotal mounting.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 2010Date of Patent: August 16, 2011Assignees: Abbott Diabetes Care Inc., Facet Technologies, LLCInventors: Ray Adams Lathrop, John Andrew Trissel, Stephen J. Patent number: 7955347Abstract: A lancing device has a housing, an activation/retraction control assembly, and a lancet. The control assembly and the housing have cooperating engagement structures such as detents that disengage after a predetermined launch force is applied to the control assembly. In this way, the lancet is driven to its puncturing position without the use of a drive spring. In addition, the control assembly and the lancet have cooperating releasable engagement structures such as notched sections and tamped protrusions that disengage when the lancet reaches its puncturing position, thereby freeing the lancet from the control assembly. And the control assembly has angled retraction structures that engage the freed lancet to bias it back safely into the housing.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2005Date of Patent: June 7, 2011Assignee: Facet Technologies, LLCInventor: Jeffrey T. Stout

Patent number: 7883473Abstract: A device (302) for sampling and/or analyzing blood or other body fluid of a subject. A housing (306) contains a plurality of lancets (308) and optionally includes test elements (324) to take up a sample of blood, an evaluation system and a display. A complete system that can be handled as a single device, for example in the form of a wristwatch, includes a multiplicity of test elements (324) and lancets (308), which can be brought successively to a working position to perform multiple measurements. A cassette or carrier (320) includes multiple lancets (308) and/or test elements (324), for insertion into the device.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2003Date of Patent: February 8, 2011Assignee: Facet Technologies, LLCInventors: Richard W. Patent number: 7837633Abstract: A medical lancing device including a replaceable multi-lancet cartridge. The lancing device includes a drive mechanism, an activation mechanism, and an advancing mechanism. The advancing mechanism includes a linear-pull slide that is moved in and out to operate an indexing ratchet mechanism, a cam-guided charger mechanism, and a cam-guided lancet cap displacement mechanism. The indexing ratchet mechanism sequentially advances the lancets in the cartridge to an active position. The cam-guided charger mechanism charges the drive mechanism and separates the cap from the active lancet. And the cam-guided cap displacement mechanism moves the separated cap from the lancing stroke path of the active lancet. The activation mechanism then releases the charged active lancet to traverse the unobstructed lancing stroke path to pierce the subject's skin at a desired lancing site.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2005Date of Patent: November 23, 2010Assignee: Facet Technologies, LLCInventors: William E. Patent number: 7678127Abstract: A lancing device has a carousel of lancets removably received in a housing. In exemplary embodiments, the lancing device includes a sterility cap positioning mechanism that removes sterility caps from the lancets for actuation and afterwards replaces the sterility caps onto the lancets. Preferably, the lancing device includes a lancet advancing mechanism that automatically advances sequential lancets of the lancet carousel for charging and actuating, and a drive mechanism for actuating the lancets. Also provided are replacement lancet carousels, which include a cylindrical carrier with axial openings and a plurality of the lancets axially oriented in the openings.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2004Date of Patent: March 16, 2010Assignee: Facet Technologies, LLCInventors: John Trissel, Richard W. Publication number: 20100036408Abstract: A lancet for use with a lancing device, the lancet including a lancet body and a lancet needle. The lancet needle has a tip for piercing a subject's skin, and the tip of the lancet needle is retractable into the lancet body after use to prevent user contact with the now-contaminated tip. The needle retraction may be effected by a retraction mechanism including a control member with a cam surface and a ram surface and a lever with a cam follower and a needle engagement or stop member. As the control member is moved relative to the lancet, the cam follower transcribes the cam surface, which causes the engagement or stop member to retract the lancet.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2007Publication date: February 11, 2010Applicant: Facet Technologies LLCInventor: Bradley S.
