  • Patent number: 4967898
Abstract: The conveyor apparatus is connecting a cutter, by means of which sheet metal blanks are produced in adjacent rows, to the magazine of a can welding apparatus which produces from the sheet metal blanks can bodies. A row of adjacently arranged depositing receptacles for receipt of at least one sheet metal blank each is located along the cutter on a frame. Two conveyor chains having dogs move along the depositing receptacles of which each presents a bottom surface which rises in the direction of transport such that the dogs push the sheet metal blanks from one to the next depositing receptacle and accordingly collect the sheet metal blanks out of all depositing receptacles such to form a pile at the end. Such pile is taken over at the end of the path of transport of the conveyer chains by a further conveyer means in form of elastically supported pawls.

  • Patent number: 4947013
Abstract: The guiding apparatus for a body for the production of can bodies having a non-circular cross-section by interconnecting the edges of the body by means of making a longitudinal seam comprises at both of the mutually opposite sides of the body supported symmetrically at circumferential areas two respective supporting rollers operative for a guiding of the body at the height of the edges to be welded and which are supported by their axes of rotation in succession relative to the direction of feed of the body in a rocker. These rockers are pivotably mounted at one end of a double arm transmission lever such that the supporting rollers operating as guides for the bodies abut continuously uniformly the further fed body for a tapering can body. A small pressing force is maintained by a pneumatic cylinder coupled to the other end of the transmission lever.

  • Patent number: 4947014
Abstract: In order to produce can bodies having a noncircular cross-section, preferably a rectangular cross-section with rounded corners, flat planar blanks are initially deformed in a deforming station by a plurality of similar bending tools, each for producing one respective bend, whereby a respective different bend is made at the same time at the various blanks of the stepwise timed advancing blanks. The bending tool includes a shaping member held stationary at the inside and having a curved outer surface end, furthermore, a roller supported in a supporting body and which is subjected to the action of a spring pressing against the supporting body in order to bend the blank located between the shaping member and pressing roller upwardly during movement by a lifting rod pivotably mounted at the supporting body. This proceeds simultaneously in all bending tools provided for one respective bend by a movable part of the deforming apparatus operating as a press.

  • Patent number: 4838473
Abstract: Two similar machines are arranged on a preferably common floor frame can be individually laterally dislocated by suitable means from a normal operating position into a non-operative position. This arrangement allows an extremely compact arrangement of the machines for the normal operation and due to the simple lateral displacing a position of the machines is made possible which allows access to all parts of the machines. The other machine may, if desired, continue its operation without any interruption.

  • Patent number: 4763807
Abstract: A can body made of a sheet metal blank has a tear strip extending between opposite ends of the blank and into a tongue extending from one blank edge. An overlapping portion at overlapping ends of the blank is completely welded, and the tongue width is greater than the strip width to assure tendency of rupture of the can body from opposite side edges of the tongue toward the strip to avoid premature breaking of the strip.

  • Patent number: 4476371
Abstract: An electric resistance seam welding method and apparatus includes a continuous wire electrode which is passed successively over a first electrode reel and thereafter over a second electrode reel via a plurality of guide and deflection rollers, the outer surfaces of the wire confronting each other when passing over the reels and being pressed together by the reels by a predetermined welding force against interposed workpieces to be seam welded together. An electric current is applied so as to pass from the second electrode reel to the first reel through the wire electrode and the interposed workpieces, and the wire electrode is motor driven for feeding the workpieces through the reels. A copper wire is utilized as the wire electrode and has a tensile strength at the elastic limit of between 11 and 13 kg-f/mm.sup.2 and has a percentage elongation at break of 26 to 17%. The reels are pressed together by a force of 60 to 70 kg, and the copper wire is subject to a tensile stress of less than 10 kg-f/mm.sup.

  • Patent number: 4162382
Abstract: A transport device for use with an electrical resistance welding machine producing longitudinal seams at workpiece bodies or the like which, prior to reaching the welding rolls of the machine, are transported at a desired welding speed by means of the transport device. The transport device comprises at least one endless chain revolving above the workpiece bodies to be transported and having workpiece body-engaging members in the form of pawls hingedly connected in spaced relationship with the endless chain. Each pawl has oppositely extending pawl arms, of which one arm possesses a contact or impact surface intended to bear against the end of a workpiece body engaged thereby and the other arm possesses a control surface which bears against a guide rail stationarily arranged above the lower chain run of the endless chain which revolves over at least two sprocket wheels.

  • Patent number: 4150277
Abstract: An electrode roll-welding arrangement for a resistance roll-welding machine comprising a welding arm adapted to be supported at a machine frame and an electrode roll mounted at an end of the welding arm, the electrode roll being supplied with the welding current by means of the welding arm acting as an electrical conductor and a shaft of the electrode roll mounted in such welding arm. The end of the welding arm receiving the electrode roll is bifurcated or fork-shaped and embodies two fork-like or bifurcated leg members situated essentially in parallelism and opposite one another, each bifurcated leg member having a slot which opens towards the front side or face of the end of the welding arm. Each such slot has at its inward or proximal slot end a bearing cradle for the reception of the shaft of the electrode roll.

  • Patent number: 4137444
Abstract: An electrical resistance-roll seam welding machine having a pair of welding rolls or rollers and at least one electrode wire which is guided from a supply station for the infeed of fresh welding wire by means of at least one of the welding rolls to a collecting station or location for used or consumed wire. The electrode wire can be brought into contact by means of the welding rolls with the workpiece which is to be welded. A brake device is arranged between the supply station and the welding rolls and a tension device for the electrode wire is disposed between the welding rolls and the collecting station or location. The sum of the tension force exerted by the tension device upon the wire and the brake force exerted by the brake device upon the wire is great enough in order to continuously maintain in tensioned state the electrode wire through its path of travel between the brake device and the tension device.
