Patents Assigned to FAG Automobiltechnik AG
  • Patent number: 5911459
Abstract: A method for installing the ring of an antifriction bearing in a bore of a housing or hub, wherein the ring is of a size that would interfere with the housing and prevent installation. The installation is done using a lengthwise force fit process without affecting the temperature of either the ring or housing at the bore by an inclined header rotating around the axis of the bore to apply an orbital, wobble, rolling movement to the ring and to press the ring into the bore. The interference of the bearing ring with the bore corresponds to tolerance fields set forth in DIN 7155.

  • Patent number: 5911458
Abstract: A process for applying one or more inner races on a shaft or a hub of a rolling bearing unit that allows the individual components to be produced with relatively wide tolerances. It is particularly useful in a wheel bearing. The process includes determining the force displacement characteristic on the bearing elements at stages of applying the one or both bearing inner races to the hub at the time the first applied bearing race contacts a stop or shoulder on the hub and then during the cold forming of a collar on the hub securing the inner races on the hub. The force displacement characteristic is monitored and may be compared with predetermined stored values.

  • Patent number: 5898388
Abstract: A rolling contact bearing with rotational speed measuring device, in particular a wheel bearing for motor vehicles for telemetric transmission of energy and signal between bearing and environment, insensitive to tolerances of the bearing and its surrounding parts, with simple and cost-effective construction and small dimensions. A first telemetry unit is integrated in the inter-ring seal. It comprises pulse transmitter, rotational speed sensor, telemetry electronics and a miniature coil, which is inductively coupled with a further telemetry unit, which is fitted axially outside the bearing, and which supplies the first telemetry unit with energy and receives its signals.

  • Patent number: 5764049
Abstract: A wheel bearing with a speed of rotation detection device, in particular for use on a motor vehicle. A sensor supported on the stationary bearing ring is opposite a pulse ring which is connected with and rotates with the rotating bearing ring. The pulse generating ring is developed as a spherical segment, spherical sector, or spherical zone, wherein the center point of its sphere is arranged at the tilt center point of the bearing. The sensor is concentric to the center point of the sphere and is opposite and spaced from the pulse ring by an air gap. The sensor may be concentric with or eccentric to the axis of rotation of the bearing ring. This develops the pulse generating ring and the sensor such that the change in the air that gap occurs as a result of static or dynamic loads on the bearing has no detrimental effect on the quality of the signal.

  • Patent number: 5763772
Abstract: A process for determining the prestress of antifriction bearings which are preloaded against each other or installed with an initial stress, and permitting a reliable determination as to the prestress actually present in the bearing. The initial stress is determined in connection with the elastic behavior (elastic deformation) of the bearing, by first, applying a first force F.sub.1 to the bearing as it rests on a flange or bearing ring, and measuring the elastic deformation S.sub.1 resulting therefrom. Second, another (higher) force F.sub.2 is applied to the bearing and again the elastic deformation S.sub.2 resulting therefrom is measured. Thereupon, the difference between the elastic deformations (S.sub.2 -S.sub.1 =.DELTA.S) is determined and the existing initial stress is found by comparison with the elastic characteristic (calculated or empirically determined) of the bearing.

  • Patent number: 5664892
Abstract: A spring leg mounting and a spring cup receiver for a spring at a wheel of a motor vehicle. At one end of the spring is a spring receiver that is toward the vehicle wheel. At the other end of the spring is the apparatus of the invention. An antifriction bearing is at that other end. A plastic cap surrounds the bearing, supports the bearing ring and seals the bearing. The cap includes a first part which defines a spring receiver that receives the respective end of the spring. The spring receiver and the spring are so shaped that the spring surrounds the receiver so that the partial region supporting the bearing is arranged concentrically within the regions forming the spring receiver. A second part of the cap is U-shaped and has a cross section with arms that extend past the radial sides of the bearing. The cap parts are snap connected together. A vibration damping pad of urethane is disposed between the spring receiving cap first part and the spring.
