  • Publication number: 20040016611
Abstract: Brake disk having a pot-shaped central fastening area. Reinforcing elements in the pot-shaped fastening area are disposed next to through holes in the area, for ensuring that deformations in the pot-shaped area caused by bolting fast the wheel rim do not have the effect of axial runout in the brake disk.

  • Publication number: 20030165280
Abstract: A wheel bearing unit having a bearing including an outer race attachable to a wheel carrier and a rotating inner race attachable to a wheel hub. The outer race includes a first plurality of mounting openings for mounting a brake caliper assembly, and second plurality of mounting openings for mounting the outer race on the wheel carrier. The first and second pluralities of mounting openings are symmetrically arranged enabling the wheel bearing unit to be used on the left and right sides of the vehicle with the caliper assemblies in the same relative positions on both sides. The first mounting openings lie at a substantially larger radial distance from the axis of rotation of the bearing than the second mounting openings, whereby the second openings overlie a region of higher strength in the wheel carrier, and the first openings are clear of the region of higher strength.

  • Publication number: 20030138173
Abstract: A ball-bearing unit for a bearing of a deep-drilling apparatus having bearing races made from steel with balls disposed therebetween. Contaminated drilling medium passes into the space between the bearing races. Load-bearing balls made from ceramic alternate with separating balls of smaller diameter made from steel between the bearing races to extend significantly the service life of the ball-bearing unit.

  • Publication number: 20030136543
Abstract: A rolling contact bearing arrangement for two axially adjacent rollers, e.g. for use in a continuous casting plant. The rollers are each mounted via two rolling contact bearings, wherein the two central adjacent rolling contact bearings are arranged within the hollows at the inner ends of the rollers. The rotating bearing outer ring bearing the roller and the stationary bearing inner ring being supported by a common axle journal for both bearings, which is held in a supporting block. This arrangement enables the distance between two axially adjacent rollers to be minimized and the cast material or slab may sag less at this point.

  • Publication number: 20030121733
Abstract: A wheel bearing flange with a periphery having axial extensions for the mounting of a flat annular brake disk thereon. An isolating connecting element between the axial extensions and the brake disk. The axial extensions have radially outwardly directed projections which engage in radially inward recesses with the interior of the brake disk. The connecting element elastically pre-loads the brake disk relative to the axial extensions to elastically compensate for displacements of the brake disk while driving.

  • Patent number: 5674011
Abstract: To permit a reliable, compact, low vibration, lightweight wheel bearing unit having a small number of components and useful for the driven wheels of a motor vehicle, there is a connecting part fastened between the bearing arrangement on the wheel flange and a joint bell at the wheel hub and the connecting part extending between them providing elastic damping by the construction thereof.

  • Patent number: 5596798
Abstract: An apparatus for assembling a bearing unit, particularly a wheel bearing unit for motor vehicles, in such a manner that the wheel bearing unit is of light construction, shows no prior damage and permits great flexibility in the manufacturing process. The force which is applied for the plastic deformation of the bead (9) at the end of the hub (1) is divided between the hub (1) and its support ram (11), on the one hand, and the hub flange (2) and its receiver (10) on the other hand, and thus, the necessary plastic deformation is concentrated in the region of the bead and not in the region between the hub (1) and the hub flange (2).

  • Patent number: 5567059
Abstract: To provide good cage guidance in a window cage for a preferable flangeless spherical roller bearing in order that the bearing might achieve higher loads, the cage includes two annular axially spaced apart ribs and transverse ribs that extend between the annular ribs and define cage pockets. At least one and preferably two and preferably opposite pockets of the cage are loading pockets. The annular ribs are radially outside the pitch circle of the bearing, but at the loading pockets, those ribs are recessed inward nearly on the pitch circle of the bearing and preferably outward thereof about the thickness of the rib material. The angle between the center of the loading pocket and the adjacent pocket is larger than the angle between the centers of other adjacent pockets to facilitate loading of the loading pockets.

  • Patent number: 5544962
Abstract: A wheel bearing unit for an automotive vehicle, and particularly a vehicle provided with ABS/traction control, includes a wheel bearing that is preferably a two row wheel bearing with the inner ring. A sensor is fixed in rotation with reference to the bearing unit and is supported to the bearing unit. A pulse generating ring is mounted around the sensor and is connected with the rotatable part of the wheel bearing, and particularly with the rotatable inner bearing ring to rotate with the rotatable ring and with respect to the sensor. An additional support bearing is provided for guiding the pulse generating ring and for supporting the pulse generating ring to the sensor to provide a constant air gap between them and to reliably mount the sensor. The additional support bearing is developed as an angular bearing. That angular bearing is prestressed by a spring.

  • Patent number: 5516215
Abstract: A roller-bearing cage prevents bearing rollers from falling out of the cage when the outer ring of the bearing is away from the cage, for example, when the outer ring is removed, the cage is removed or the cage is swung out from the outer ring. The rollers are held in place by holding knobs formed on a radially outwardly directed cage flange located at the axial end of the rollers. The knobs are located radially outwardly of the pitch circle of the rollers, are spaced circumferentially apart sufficient to be out of contact with the rollers when the rollers are in the operating position of the bearing in contact with the outer and inner ring, yet are spaced close enough together that the space between two holding knobs is less than the diameter of the roller lying opposite the knobs. The knobs are formed on a resilient, outwardly directed cage flange which moves resiliently upon the snapping in and out of the rollers in the cage. The knobs may be hemispherical or frustoconically shaped.

  • Patent number: 5490732
Abstract: A wheel bearing unit for example for use in a motor vehicle, including an antifriction bearing clamped on the hub. The hub includes a bore which defines a tubular hub part that prior to deformation extends past the axially outer end of the inner ring of the bearing. The tubular hub part is deformed radially outward around the radially inner, axially outer edge of the inner ring to clamp the inner ring and the bearing to the hub. Features of the inner ring and hub for enabling such clamping are disclosed including the hub material hardness, the hub having a tubular part of a particular wall thickness and a length protruding beyond the axial end of the bearing, the radius of the edge of the inner ring about which the bead is formed, the thickness of the bead and its angle of inclination both with reference to the end of the inner ring and to the interior bore, and the depth of the bore.

  • Patent number: 5487611
Abstract: A sealing system for a roller bearing having an inner bearing race on the axle, bearing rollers around the inner race and an outer race around the bearing rollers. A sealing cap is spaced axially away from one axial end of the races. A first sealing ring is sealed to the outer race, and it includes an axial area that extends toward and that is spaced a short distance from the sealing cap defining a first sealing gap. A felt ring is disposed within the bore defined by the axially extending area of the first sealing ring. The felt ring is spaced axially out from the rollers and defines a first grease holding chamber between the rollers and the felt ring and a second grease holding chamber axially outward of the felt ring. A second sealing ring is located axially outward of the felt ring. It includes a sealing lip which seals at the felt ring.
