    Abstract: A fan assembly includes an elongate support member having a first end portion and a second end portion. The fan assembly further includes a motor assembly including (i) a motor having an output shaft, and (ii) a support assembly that supports the motor, the support assembly being secured to the first end portion of the elongate support member. The fan assembly also includes at least one fan blade coupled to the output shaft of the motor so that rotation of the output shaft causes rotation of the at least one fan blade. In addition, the fan assembly includes a bracket assembly having (i) a base, (ii) a first support extending from the base, (iii) a second support extending from the base, (iv) a first jaw interposed between the first support and the second support, and (v) a second jaw interposed between the first support and the second support. The fan assembly also includes a first fastener. The first jaw and the second jaw are spaced apart from each other to define a space.

    Abstract: A fan includes a frame and a motor having (i) a motor structure that is movable in relation to the frame in a path of movement, and (ii) an output shaft that is rotatable in relation to the motor structure. The fan further includes at least one fan blade coupled to the output shaft so that rotation of the output shaft causes rotation of the at least one fan blade. Also, the fan includes a first housing portion defining a first cavity and a second housing portion defining a second cavity. The second housing portion is movable in relation to the first housing portion. One of the first housing portion and the second housing portion is fixed in relation to the frame. The other of the first housing portion and the second housing portion is fixed in relation to the motor structure. The first cavity of the first housing portion and the second cavity of the second housing portion collectively define a space in which the motor structure is positioned.

The fan assembly also includes a resilient interface member having a third fastener opening defined therein, the resilient interface member being (i) positioned within the receptacle, and (ii) interposed between the end portion of the elongate support member and receptacle.

    Abstract: A ceiling fan with retractable fan blades includes an electric motor operable to spin a rotor with a plurality of fan blades attached thereto. Each of the fan blades is operable to move between a closed position and an open position. A rotatable center ring is included on the rotor and connecting rods join each fan blade to the center ring. Rotation of the center ring relative to the rotor moves the plurality of connecting rods and fan blades in unison. The fan blades are spring biased toward the closed position. When the rotor rotates, centrifugal forces acting on the fan blades overcome the spring biasing forces and cause the fan blades to move toward the open position. A governor is positioned between the rotor and at least one of the fan blades to limit the speed of movement of the fan blades between the closed position and the open position. The governor may take the form of a fluid cylinder.

The hanger bracket has an upper end for being mounted to the surface and a bottom end that defines a socket. The socket includes an opening through it that is smaller than the diameter of the ball member. The socket's opening defines a radius so that the ball is received in the socket such that the down rod extends through the opening.
