Abstract: A packing device is disclosed and comprises a hopper and a packer mechanism. The hopper is for receiving waste and has a substantially arcuate interior bottom surface and an aperture opening into the interior of the hopper. The aperture has a base towards which the interior bottom surface extends. The packer mechanism is mounted in the hopper for reciprocating movement along an arcuate path defined at least in part by the bottom'surface. In use, waste introduced into the hopper deposits on the interior surface when the packer is retracted and is swept by the packer mechanism through the aperture during an extension stroke of the packer. The packer mechanism has a blade portion with a bottom engaging and resting on the bottom surface of the hopper, this surface supporting the packer in the hopper. At least one hydraulic cylinder drive is connected to the packer mechanism for moving this mechanism from its retracted position to an extended position and back again.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a refuse collection system for use in association with a transport vehicle. The system comprises a container having multiple internal compartments and a refuse-receiving trough divided into a plurality of trough-shaped receptacles, each communicating with an internal compartment. The system further comprises an actuation system which engages a packer to displace refuse from the trough to the container.
Abstract: A system for carrying refuse and other materials can be used in combination with a transport vehicle. More particularly, the system can be part of a trailer for a transport vehicle. The system has a frame to which a load-bearing platform is attached. The platform has a plurality of elongated slats, each of which is engaged with a slat bearing bar such that the slats are spaced so as to permit liquid to seep between them. A drive mechanism is attached to the slats for displacing them. A tray is attached to the frame and extends beneath the elongated slats so as to catch liquid waste that seeps between the slats.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a container for use in association with a transport vehicle, for collecting, compacting, storing and transporting refuse. More particularly, the invention relates to a side-loading refuse vehicle. Accordingly, the invention herein comprises a refuse collection system for use in combination with a transport vehicle. The system comprises a housing having a collection hopper at its first end, with an opening and a storage compartment at its second end. The refuse collection system also has a packing arm movable front and rearwards within the housing and having a blade portion. The packing arm is movable along a generally arcuate path from a rest position behind the collection hopper and to an extended position forward of the collection hopper. The path of travel of the blade portion passes over the collection hopper to sweep refuse from the collection hopper into the storage compartment.
