    Abstract: A method and system allows a consumer to preauthorize charges to be billed using a consumer's credit or debit card and prevent approval of charges that have not been preauthorized. The merchant/seller can verify that the charges have been preauthorized and ensure that charges did not result from use of stolen credit or debit card numbers. The method and system is applicable to purchases made over the Internet and made by normal voice telephone calls to a merchant.
