  • Patent number: 7975594
Abstract: A device for defense and protection from projectiles, especially shaped charge projectiles, is provided with at least one grille-type protective barrier for the protection of an object by deflection, partial release, release and/or damage to the shell projectile. The protective barrier includes a netting forming meshes that are rectangular, triangular, hexagonal, polygonal and/or rhomboid. Such a device is lighter and easier to install in comparison to conventional protective grilles.

  • Patent number: 7458449
Abstract: A shock absorbing device for a cable under tension, in particular for rockfall, debris flow and avalanche control works, is equipped with an elongate, helical deformation element (1), through which the cable (9) can be looped. Both overlapping end areas (2, 3) of the deformation element (1) are guided through a holding element (10; 30), and the deformation element (1) is plastically deformable when the cable is overloaded, by reducing the helical diameter. The holding element (10; 30) has bevels or roundings (21, 22, 23; 40, 41) at the entry and exit of an opening (31) formed for the overlapping end sections (2, 3) of the deformation element (1). The effect of this is that the reduction of the helical diameter can progress more consistently than before, and also the load-damping curve can be defined better.

  • Patent number: 7401961
Abstract: In order to improve visibility and hence to reduce the risk of accidents, a load-carrying rope, for example a wire rope, is equipped with a number of luminous elements. A luminous element may in this case assume the position of a wire or of a braid, may be integrated in an insert, or may be guided in the spaces between wires or braids and preferably within the theoretical rope circumference. The luminous element may also itself be composed of luminous elements which are twisted together, spiralled, or laid in so as to form braids. For strain relief, the luminous elements may be equipped with a reinforcement in the form of a strand, or with a mesh.

  • Patent number: 7188825
Abstract: A catchment net (1), especially for rockfall blocking, includes a net (2) consisting of elements that engage with each other, and whose two longitudinal sides are each moveably held by a holding rope (3, 4) extending between at least two support bodies (7, 8, 9, 10). The two holding ropes (3, 4) are moveably held by the individual support bodies (7, 8, 9, 10) in their longitudinal direction and tensioned at the side. At least one running rope (37, 38, 39, 40; 47, 48, 49, 50) or suchlike extending alongside the support body on each of the holding ropes (3, 4) preferably within the area of the each support body (7, 8, 9, 10) is affixed with one end on one side and with the other end on the other side to the support body (7, 8, 9, 10). The net (2) is moveably held within the support body area by the running ropes (37, 38, 39, 40; 47, 48, 49, 50). The catchment net (1) therefore guarantees an optimal load distribution as well as a more favorable flow of energy through the net.

  • Patent number: 6592103
Abstract: A catchment net for rockfall catchment systems or the like has a net (12, 33) and support elements (16, 17, 18, 19). The net (12, 33) is retained on the outside, on at least two mutually-opposing sides, by least one peripheral cable (14, 15, 41, 42) in each case, and/or by a tensioning cable (22). Additional connection elements (25, 46), which connect the net (12, 33) to the support elements at its outside, make it possible for the energy incurred in the event of a rock (23, 31) or the like falling into the net to be absorbed to the maximum. The connection elements can, however, also be secured additionally or only in the interior of the net.

  • Patent number: 6279858
Abstract: A wire netting, preferably used as a gravel screen or for protecting a soil surface layer is woven from corrosion-resistant wires and either fitted on the soil surface or secured in an almost upright position on a slope or something similar. The wires in the wire netting are manufactured from heavy-duty steel, which has a nominal strength in the region of 1000 to 2200 N/mm2 and steel wire may be used for this for stranded wires or spring steel wire. The wire netting is manufactured from rectangular, diagonal netting and it has a three-dimensional, mattress-like structure.

  • Patent number: 5669214
Abstract: To reduce elongation of a stranded wire rope or cable (1), particularly when running over sheaves, or pulleys, and decrease vibration as well as operating noise while increasing operating speed, insert elements (4) are placed between adjacent rope elements (2). The insert elements, in cross-section, have an intermediate portion part (7) with oppositely positioned concave recesses (9), a head portion (6) which can be widened to the circumferential diameter of the rope or cable (1) and a widened base portion (8). The base portions (8) are not interconnected. The insert ribbons or tapes are preferably formed along their length with slits (11) extending from the head portion (6) to about the middle of the ribbon or tape to allow for bending of the rope, and the inserts about circular pulleys.

  • Patent number: 5597017
Abstract: A retaining net is made of wire rings which are interlooped when producing at least some of the rings while other rings that participate in the interlooping are prefabricated. Such nets are used for protection against falling rocks, avalanches, and mud slides. The interlooping rings are formed by feeding a wire (22) through a bending tool (15) to form several turns that interloop with at least two prefabricated rings (20A, 20B) that are held by suspender members (31) so that the rings (20 being formed extend crosswise to the prefabricated rings. When the formation of a first row of interlooped rings is completed, that row is interlooped with a second row and so forth. The interlooped ring structure provides a simple, cost effective construction method for strong retaining nets.

  • Patent number: 5321922
Abstract: A steel cable eyelet construction for a looped steel cable end is protected against corrosion by a tubular member of synthetic material that extends all the way around the loop and partially into the ground when the steel cable end is formed as an anchor that is cemented into the ground. The synthetic material tubular member in turn is protected against mechanical wear and tear by a tubular metal jacket such as a stainless steel jacket. This construction is especially suitable for anchors that are used to secure protection nettings against falling rocks and avalanches. Providing the corrosion protection and the mechanical wear and tear resistance by different elements assures a prolonged serviceability of such steel cable eyelets forming anchors cemented into the ground.

  • Patent number: 5207302
Abstract: To permit absorption of sudden impacts or shock overloads, or gradual overloads, on a cable stretched to retain stones, rocks or snow masses, for example in road or railway cuts, a tube is bent to form an open loop, the end portions of which are held together by a clamp so that the end portions are frictionally engaged against each other, and the cable is threaded through the tube. Upon overload, the tube can plastically deform, thereby reducing the diameter of the loop or ring formed thereby, and accept overloads without overloading or unduly stressing the cable.

  • Patent number: 4530205
Abstract: To provide a predetermined pre-set twist or rotation about an angle corresponding at least approximately through the spiraling angle of strands (8) wrapped about a core wire or strand (48), the individual surrounding strands are passed through directionally orienting dies (20, 28) which may receive circular strands and impart an approximately truncated wedge-shape thereto, or directly receive pre-shaped strands. The orienting dies are angularly adjustable in a holder (26) which, in turn, is rotatable about an axis transverse to the axis of the die opening, all the dies being secured to a carrier plate which is axially adjustable with respect to the stranding die (7) of the apparatus.
