  • Patent number: 10662838
Abstract: An adaptive valve assembly includes a pipe defining a passageway for conducting engine exhaust gases, a pivot shaft supported by the pipe, and a valve body coupled to the pivot shaft. The valve body is moveable between an open position where exhaust gas flow through the passageway is increased and a closed position where exhaust gas flow through the passageway is reduced. A spring biases the valve body toward the closed position. The spring includes a plurality of coils that have torsional displacement relative to each other as the valve body moves between the open and closed positions. A torsional damper feature is associated with at least one coil of the plurality of coils to provide torsional spring damping.

  • Patent number: 10337379
Abstract: A mixer assembly includes an outer housing having an inlet area that receives exhaust gas from an upstream exhaust component and an outlet area that directs exhaust gas to a downstream exhaust component. The outer housing includes an outer wall extending outwardly from the base wall about a periphery of the base wall and a deflector wall that directs exhaust gas from the inlet area to the outlet area. The deflector wall has a portion spaced from the outer wall to define a flow guide path that first directs exhaust gas flow from the inlet area in a first direction against a first portion of the outer wall and then directs exhaust gas flow in a second direction against a second portion of the outer wall that is transverse to the first portion.

  • Patent number: 10215075
Abstract: A mixer assembly for a vehicle exhaust system includes a mixer having an upstream end and a downstream end. The mixer defines an internal cavity within which exhaust gases are mixed. A mixer inlet body has an enclosed end and an open end that attaches to the upstream end of the mixer. The mixer inlet body includes an outer peripheral surface extending from the enclosed end to the open end to surround a center axis. The outer peripheral surface includes an inlet port and the enclosed end includes a helically formed portion that initiates a swirling motion to the exhaust gases exiting the inlet port.

  • Patent number: 10193049
Abstract: A thermoelectric generator unit, in particular for coupling to an exhaust gas pipe of an internal combustion engine, comprises at least one inner tube (16) having gas flowing therein and whose outer circumference comprises at least one flat portion (24). An oval outer housing (12) completely surrounds the inner tube (16) in circumferential direction. A plurality of thermoelectric modules (14) are arranged on the flat portions (24) of the inner tube (16). At least one cooling element (18) is provided which comprises a flat side on which the thermoelectric modules (14) are arranged. The assembly unit made up of inner tube (16), thermoelectric modules (14) and cooling element (18) is surrounded by an elastic compensation element (20) which rests on the inner side of the outer housing (12) and is retained in the outer housing (12) by means of clamping.

  • Patent number: 9995193
Abstract: A vehicle exhaust system includes a mixer and a doser that sprays a reducing agent into the mixer to be thoroughly mixed with engine exhaust gases prior to introduction of the mixture into a downstream exhaust component. The mixer includes an upstream baffle with at least one inlet opening and a downstream baffle with at least one outlet opening. An outer peripheral wall surrounds the upstream and downstream baffle and includes a doser opening. A doser is mounted at the doser opening and is configured to spray a reducing agent into an area between the upstream and downstream baffles. A deflector is positioned between the inlet opening and the doser opening to protect spray at the doser opening from direct impact with exhaust gas from the inlet opening, and an impactor is positioned adjacent the deflector and faces the doser opening.
