  • Patent number: 5996915
Abstract: A vibrating cone crusher which crushes material between a cone and a frustoconical ring located therearound. An annular frame supports the ring and a device for generating circular vibrations in a horizontal plane. Tie rods connect the frame to a cone holder. Vertical vibration that disrupts crusher operation is reduced or neutralized by positioning the center of gravity of the cone, the cone holder, the frame, and items supported thereon adjacent the plane of vibratory forces.

  • Patent number: 5575428
Abstract: A grinding mill comprises a support structure, a frame movable with respect to the support structure, a bottomless bowl supported on the frame, vibrators for imparting circular and approximately horizontal vibrations to the bowl, and a cone fitted inside the bowl and mounted on the support structure for free rotation around an axis of the cone. The speed of rotation of the cone around the axis is measured, the bowl and the cone defining a gap therebetween for receiving a layer of a material to be ground upon rotation of the cone, and for the ground material to be discharged in a discharge plane. A minimum thickness of the layer of ground material in the discharge plane is determined on the basis of a measured value of the cone rotation, and the frequency and/or amplitude of the bowl vibrations is adjusted so as to maintain the minimum thickness of the layer at a set value.

  • Patent number: 5558279
Abstract: The invention relates to aluminium smelters in which the treatment of spent potlinings (carbonaceous products resulting from the demolition of the lining of the walls and bottom of the electrolytic pots) requires a prior reduction of the potlinings into pieces not bigger than a few millimetres in size. The grinding process forming the subject of the invention is characterized in that it includes a crushing operation (12) in which the spent potlinings are reduced into pieces not bigger than 50 mm, a screening operation (16) permitting to separate those drains measuring a few millimetres and constituting the finished product, and a grinding operation (14) permitting to reduce the screen oversize to the finished product dimensions.

  • Patent number: 5393000
Abstract: A crusher comprises a cylindrical body, a lining supported by a portion of the cylindrical body and forming an annular track, the supporting cylindrical body portion having a prismatic interior surface, and at least one roller arranged to roll on the annular track. The lining consists of plates having a concave interior surface shaped to form a rolling surface of the annular track and a flat exterior surface resting on the prismatic interior surface of the supporting cylindrical body portion. This reduces the risk of breakage of the lining plates under the pressure applied thereto by the roller.

  • Patent number: 5238400
Abstract: An apparatus for distributing pneumatically conveyed solid pulverulent material over an annular area of large diameter comprises an enclosure defining an annular chamber having a substantially vertical axis, a closed upper end and a lower end, an upper portion adjacent the closed upper end and a lower portion adjacent the lower end. A section defined by a plane extending perpendicularly to the axis has a constant area in the upper portion and an area decreasing progressively towards the lower end in the lower portion. An annular outlet opening or a series of annularly arranged outlet openings is defined by the lower end, and an inlet conduit for a flow of gaseous fluid for pneumatically conveying the solid pulverulent material into the chamber is connected to the upper chamber portion so that the gaseous fluid flow penetrates the chamber in an approximately radial direction.

  • Patent number: 5223040
Abstract: A batch process of producing sugar crystals from syrup in a discontinuously operated crystallization apparatus comprising a heating calandria, comprises the steps of graining a batch of concentrated syrup by adding seed crystals thereto to form a magma, causing sugar crystals in the magma to grow by subjecting it to evaporation in heat exchange with the calandria and adding syrup while maintaining the mother liquor at a desired coefficient of supersaturation to obtain massecuite, increasing the brix of the massecuite to a desired value to obtain a final volume of massecuite which is substantially equal to the volume of the magma, and controlling the flow of steam to the calandria and the flow of added syrup at least during the growing phase of the sugar crystals so that the mother liquor is maintained at supersaturation and the level of the massecuite remains substantially constant.

  • Patent number: 5217368
Abstract: A process and apparatus to treat powdered minerals placed in gaseous suspension by thermal exchange. The process includes the steps of preheating the minerals to be treated by the exhaust gas from a furnace. The minerals are then treated in the furnace. The minerals are then cooled with a stream of air prior to introducing the stream of air into the furnace. The furnace exhaust gases are filtered before being released into the atmosphere. A majority of the filtrate is mixed with the minerals leaving the furnace. The remainder of the filtrate is placed in suspension in a current of air diverted from the current of warm air which cools the minerals leaving the furnace. The remainder of the filtrate is separated from the air. The remainder of the filtrate is then mixed with the treated minerals and at least partially cooled. The diverted air is mixed with the furnace exhaust gases.

  • Patent number: 5205494
Abstract: The purpose of the invention is a process and a machine for the fine grinding of materials such as cement clinker. To improve the energy efficiency of the operation, by performing a systematic grinding, without resorting to excessively high pressures or excessively substantial recycling rates, there is used a mill composed of a rotating path and a roller capable of rolling on the path, exerting on the material by means of the roller an average pressure between 10 and 40 MPa and, on each turn of the path, the material is moved transversely on the latter over a distance which is a fraction of the width of the path.
