    Abstract: A braided protective sleeve and method of construction thereof is provided. The sleeve has a wall extending along a longitudinal axis of the sleeve. The wall includes a plurality of braided yarns forming inner and outer surfaces of the sleeve. The inner surface bounds an internal cavity and the outer surface is exposed to the surrounding environment. The yarns are braided with one another in a X/Y braid pattern with X and Y being different numerical values from one another. The numerical values of X and Y can be selected as desired to provide the sleeve with the enhanced physical performance characteristics desired. A plurality of yarns extending substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis can be interlaced with the braided yarns. The interlaced yarns can be exposed to the internal cavity and concealed from the environment; exposed to the environment and concealed from the internal cavity, or both.

The wall is woven from lengthwise extending warp yarns and circumferentially extending weft yarns. The weft yarns form a plurality of discrete annular bands, with adjacent bands having weft yarns of different diameters to provide the wall with discrete enhanced hoop strength regions and with discrete enhanced flexibility regions, where the enhanced hoop strength and enhanced flexibility regions alternate in adjacent relation with one another.

    Abstract: A textile sleeve for routing and protecting elongate members and method of construction thereof are provided. The sleeve has a wall of interlaced monofilament and/or multifilament yarns. Opposite edges of the wall extend along a central axis of the sleeve. The opposite edges are biased into a self-wrapping, overlapping relation with one another to bound a tubular cavity in an in-use first configuration. A plurality of elongate hinges formed with the interlaced yarns extend along the length of the sleeve in substantially parallel relation with the central axis, with the hinges separating relatively rigid, arcuate regions of the wall from one another. The hinges allow the arcuate regions to be moved from the expanded in-use tubular first configuration to a collapsed, second configuration nested with one another to allow significantly increased numbers of the sleeves to be shipped and stowed in a significantly reduced volume of space.

At least one of the yarns is heat formed at one temperature to form the wall as a self-wrapping wall curling about a longitudinal axis of the sleeve. The wall has an inner surface providing a generally tubular cavity in which the elongate members are received. The wall also has an outer surface with a cured layer thereon. The cured layer is cured at the one temperature at which the yarns are heat formed into their self-wrapping configuration, wherein the cured layer fills the interstices between adjunct yarns to form an impervious layer on the wall.

The coupling agent acts as a dispersion agent to the fine powders of PET, MC and MPP and also allows the resin of the fine powders to be compounded at a reduced temperature which prevents degradation of the PET. The compound can be extruded as a thin film, sheet or tubing, and also as a filament or yarn, including monofilaments and multifilaments, which can ultimately be used to construct a protective sleeve.
