Abstract: A motor housing for a vacuum cleaner includes a main body, a peripheral rim, and an interconnecting base bounding portions of a working air chamber. A portion of the peripheral rim defines a sidewall having a plurality of vanes and a plurality of exhaust openings, with the vanes and the exhaust openings cooperating to exhaust air from the working air chamber in response to rotation of the impeller. Each of the vanes having an airfoil-shaped cross section, and each vane is oriented such that the airfoil of each vane is oriented oppositely relative to the airfoil of its adjacent vanes. Thus, a first set of the vanes are positioned to direct air through the exhaust openings, while a second set of vanes are positioned to direct excess air from adjacent the exhaust openings toward the chamber and back into the flow pattern.
Abstract: A circuit breaker includes a normally open switch having first and second contacts and a movable leaf spring supporting the first contact. The leaf spring is normally oriented in a first position wherein the first contact is not in electrical contact with the second contact. The leaf spring is deformable into a second position wherein the first contact is in electrical contact with the second contact. An armature is movable between an open and a closed position and is located adjacent an electric coil which generates a magnetic field which moves the armature into the closed position when the coil is energized. The leaf spring biases the armature into its open position when the coil is not energized. The armature causes the leaf spring to deform into the second position, so as to place the first contact into electrical contact with the second contact, when the coil is energized.

Abstract: Apparatus for remotely controlling electrical equipment includes a ground fault interrupter circuit having a selectively operable circuit breaker for connecting and disconnecting power to the electrical equipment, a transmitter for generating amplitude modulated electromagnetic radiation when it is desired to operate the circuit breaker, and a receiver responsive to the electromagnetic radiation for selectively operating the circuit breaker.
Abstract: A ground fault interruptor circuit interrupts the flow of current to a pair of lines extending between a source of power and a load. The ground fault interruptor circuit includes a circuit breaker comprising a normally open switch located in one or both of the lines, a relay circuit for selectively closing the normally open switch, an electronic latch circuit operable in first and second bi-stable states and a fault sensing circuit for sensing the presence of a fault condition in at least one of the lines. The electronic latch circuit causes the relay circuit to close the normally open switch and maintain the normally open switch in its closed position when the electronic latch circuit is in the first bi-stable state. The electronic latch circuit also causes the relay circuit to permit the normally open switch to return to its normally open condition when the latch circuit is in its second bi-stable state.
