  • Patent number: 6282868
Abstract: Objects are conveyed to a strapping position (U) along a conveying path (F), are strapped in this strapping position and are conveyed away from it. For the strapping a strapping material (4) is positioned curtain-like across the conveying path (F) and is drawn along by an object to be strapped such that it is placed around the downstream side of the object and can be positioned on the upstream side of the object and be connected and separated producing a connection point in the strapping closed around the object and in the strapping material (4) again extended across the conveying path for the next object to be strapped. For producing strappings with either one connection point or with two connection points and for allowing the strapping material to be supplied from only one side of the conveying path, shifting steps are carried out alternatingly with strapping steps or with groups of strapping steps in which shifting steps the strapping material (4) is shifted actively across the conveying path (F).

  • Patent number: 6230473
Abstract: Stacks (2) of flat articles supplied in a serial stack stream are wrapped with a film (3) in a first packing step so the film (3) covers the top, bottom and two vertical sides of each stack and projects beyond both sides of the covered stack sides. Packing of the film-wrapped stacks (2.3, 2.4) is finished in a second packing step at a strapping/welding position. Depending on the stack height (d.1, d.2), stacks (2.3) having a height (d.1) greater than a predetermined limit stack height are strapped and stacks (2.4), whose height (d.2) is equal to or smaller than the limit stack height, film areas (3.1) projecting beyond the top and bottom of the stack are welded together, strapping being suppressed or performed simultaneously with the welding operation.

  • Patent number: 6209449
Abstract: Two per se known cross-strapping devices (10, 11) to which packages or bundles (1, 2 . . . 5) to be strapped are supplied in a conveying direction (F) in which one package or bundle at a time is positioned and crosswise strapped and out of which strapped packages or bundles are conveyed in the same conveying direction (F), are arranged in direct succession and are operated as a “tandem” by supplying two packages or bundles (1, 2), one to each one of the devices, by simultaneously strapping them and by conveying them away again simultaneously. For this purpose, a mutual control mode is necessary in which mutual control mode, in the two devices conveying steps (b) are carried out alternating with strapping steps (a) whereby the conveying stroke (2h) of the conveying steps is twice as long as when operating one only device. Compared to a single cross-strapping device, the arrangement has an increased performance and requires a minimal amount of additional space.

  • Patent number: 6085487
Abstract: Objects or stacks (S) conveyed sequentially into a strapping position (U) are strapped in the strapping position (U) selectively with a first strapping or wrapping material (A/A') parallel to the conveying direction and/or with a second strapping material (B) perpendicular to the conveying direction. For the parallel strapping, the first strapping or wrapping material (A/A') is positioned across the conveying path of the objects or stacks in the entry of the strapping position (U) and this first strapping or wrapping material is closed and cut behind each object or stack to form a strapping or wrapping, whereby the first material is simultaneously reconnected and repositioned for the next object or stack. Perpendicular strapping is carried out by means of a loop channel (32) arranged substantially perpendicular to the conveying path. For objects or stacks which are not to be strapped parallel to the conveying direction, the first strapping or wrapping material is shifted out of the conveying path.

  • Patent number: 6082254
Abstract: For strapping substantially parallelepipedic objects or stacks which are conveyed into a strapping position and out of this position after strapping, a strapping tape extending in a starting position substantially straight from one side of the conveying path to the opposite side is formed into a tape bow with the help of two tape positioning devices arranged on the two opposite sides of the conveying path. Then, the object to be strapped is conveyed into the tape bow and the tape is tensioned around the object and is closed around the object and cut off the tape supply in the region of its starting position such that the object is strapped and the tape is again in its starting position. By adapting the size of the tape bow according to the format of an object to be strapped, the tape does not have to be pulled back for tensioning it around the object or stack. Therefore, the device is simple and the time required for strapping is short.
