Patent number: 11771859Abstract: An apparatus to remove liquid from a ventilation system can include a housing, a first port extending into an interior volume of the housing and a second port extending toward the first tube, into the interior volume, separated from the first port by a gap that is at least 5 mm in length, such that ventilating fluid transfers from the first port to the second while secretions and condensate escape through the gap, to be trapped in the housing. The first port joins with a ventilator. The second port joins with an intubation tube coupled to a tracheostomy or endotracheal tube. An extraction port is in a floor of the housing so that accumulated liquids in the housing can drain downward and out the extraction port, while minimizing positive end expiratory pressure loss in the ventilation system, and without exposing caregivers to biological material in the drained liquid.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2020Date of Patent: October 3, 2023Assignees: COREWELL HEALTH INNOVATIONS LLC, GRAND VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY, KENDALL COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN OF FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITYInventors: John P. Patent number: 11592689Abstract: An adaptor system to facilitate use of eyewear with an audio processor for a cochlear hearing implant. The system includes an audio processor adaptor configured to mount to the audio processor and an eyewear adaptor configured to mount to the eyewear. The audio processor adaptor and the eyewear adaptor can be selectively connected to join the eyewear and the audio processor. The audio processor adaptor may include an ear hook portion that allows the audio processor to be worn over a wearer's ear even when separated from the eyewear. The adaptor system may be provided as a kit including a plurality of audio processor adaptors configured to mount to different audio processors and/or a plurality of eyewear adaptors configured to mount to different eyewear. The adaptors may include universal connectors that allow any audio processor adaptor to be interconnected with any eyewear adaptor.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2020Date of Patent: February 28, 2023Assignee: FERRIS STATE UNIVERSITYInventors: Daniel A. Patent number: 6644811Abstract: A diagnostic tool for evaluating a patient's oculomotor system includes tests for measuring the amount of a patient's heterophoria and fixation disparity and determining whether these two measurements bear a normal or abnormal relationship. If the results of these tests do not bear a normal relationship, it is concluded that an oculomotor imbalance or dysfunction exists and further analysis should be performed to determine the precise nature of the dysfunction. The diagnostic tool may comprise a near-point card on which tests for heterophoria and fixation disparity are printed, as well as a graph indicating the expected or normal relationship between the results of these two tests. Additional diagnostic tests may be included on the card.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2001Date of Patent: November 11, 2003Assignee: Ferris State UniversityInventor: Jimmie James Saladin
