Abstract: A metal fiber media exhibiting superior durability, mechanical strength, and heat transfer efficiency, a filter for an exhaust gas purifier using the same as a filter member, and a method for manufacturing the filter are disclosed. The metal filter media includes a metal fiber mat made of longitudinally-aligned metal fiber yarns each including a bundle of 20 to 500 uniformly-oriented metal fibers and having a length of 0.45 to 0.6 m per 1 g, and a torsion of 1 to 9 turns/m such that the metal fiber mat has a porosity of 30 to 95%, and supports respectively attached to upper and lower surfaces of the metal fiber mat, the supports having a porosity of 5 to 95%. Since the metal fiber media exhibits excellent durability and mechanical strength, no crack is generated in the metal fiber medial due to external impact. Accordingly, there is no possibility of damage. Since the metal fiber media has excellent heat transfer efficiency, uniform heat transfer is achieved during regeneration of the filter.

  • Publication number: 20060156708
Abstract: Disclosed is a metal fiber yarn, which is used to produce a membrane for a surface combustion burner having a wide combustion range and high porosity, a fabric produced using the metal fiber yarn, a method for manufacturing the fabric, and the membrane for the surface combustion burner using the fabric. Having a length of 0.45-0.6 m/g and a torsion ratio of 1-9 turns/m, the metal fiber yarn comprises 50-100 unidirectionally oriented metal fibers, which are produced by combing randomly oriented metal fibers manufactured by a melt extraction method. The membrane has uniform combustion efficiency, a wide combustion range, and high porosity.

  • Publication number: 20050271995
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a metal fiber sintered body for combustion used for combustion media of gas burners. The sintered body comprises a plurality of circular though-holes, each having a diameter of 0.5˜2 mm, formed in a regular pattern therein. The sintered body has a metal fiber density in the range of 0.5˜4 kg/m2, and a total area of the through-holes is less than 5% of a total surface area of the metal fiber sintered body. The metal fibers may comprise Fe—Cr—Al-based alloys, and further comprise trace elements. When the sintered body is applied to the combustion media, the fuel gas is prevented from being concentrated on the center of the through holes and leaked therethrough, while the length of combustion flames is reduced, thereby enabling complete combustion as well as allowing the combustion chamber to be manufactured at a reduced scale.

  • Patent number: 6604570
Abstract: An apparatus and method for continuously manufacturing metal filaments in mass production. In accordance with the present invention, molten metal is hung in a state freely depending from the tip of a metal bar by its surface tension without using any vessel. The metal filament manufacturing apparatus includes an induction coil upwardly bent in the form of a nose shape at regions thereof where metal filaments are discharged while being soared up, respectively, so as to prevent the molten metal of each of the metal bars from being affected by the induction coil during soaring of the metal filaments. The apparatus also includes wiping assembly for removing residual metal materials left on a spinning disk.
