Patent number: 4493394Abstract: A brace lock on a scaffold for releasably engaging a perforated end of a brace. The lock comprises a pin means with an end attached to the scaffold and a free end. The pin means has a thickness and contour which permits the perforated end of the brace to pass over the pin means. The pin means includes an offset so that when the end of the brace is positioned near the attached end of the pin means, the end of the brace will not slide to the free end of the pin means unless the end of the brace is raised upwardly over the offset. The lock also includes a latch means releasably securing the end of the brace when the end of the brace is positioned near the attached end of the retaining pin means.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1982Date of Patent: January 15, 1985Assignee: Figgie International Inc.Inventor: Stig Karlsen

Patent number: 4478023Abstract: Apparatus for automatically receiving and opening the four flaps of a cardboard case or the like. The invention includes a conveyor system for transporting cases in spaced relationship with each other past a pair of vacuum-actuated hinged shoes which engage and partially open the side flaps and direct the same into a plow. The plow completes the opening of the side flaps. A pair of brushes, having common drive, but opposite rotation, are adapted for opening the front and rear flaps. A fabric belt engages and holds the front flap down, while a rotating arcuate member makes hold-down contact with the rear flap. The apparatus is adjustable to accommodate cases and flaps of varying dimensions.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1982Date of Patent: October 23, 1984Assignee: Figgie International, Inc.Inventor: Michael L. Patent number: 4462590Abstract: An inflatable padded game ball comprising an inner bladder assembly and an outer carcass enclosing the bladder assembly. The carcass comprises an outer cover of relatively tough durable material, padding on the inside of the cover, and a liner on the inside of the padding. The inner bladder assembly comprises an inflatable bladder of an elastic substantially air-impervious material, and a sheath around the bladder for restraining expansion of the bladder when it is inflated thereby to reduce the outward pressure on the carcass and thus increase the dimensional stability of the ball.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1982Date of Patent: July 31, 1984Assignee: Figgie International Inc.Inventor: Mark E. Patent number: 4445307Abstract: A scaffold joint for connectng the ends of horizontal scaffold members to vertical scaffold members. Spaced pairs of ring support members are fastened to the vertical scaffold members by welding or other suitable means. End connector assemblies are fastened to the ends of the horizontal scaffold members. Each of said end connector assemblies includes an end connector member and a locking member slidably mounted thereon. Each end connector member has a pair of ring engaging portions adapted for engagement with the spaced ring support members on said vertical scaffold members. The locking members are adapted when moved to their locked position to make tight wedging contact with a ring support member, thereby causing the ring engagement portions on the end connector members to be forced into tight engagement with the ring support members to thereby lock the horizontal scaffold members to the vertical scaffold members.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1982Date of Patent: May 1, 1984Assignee: Figgie International Inc.Inventors: Joseph S. Puccinelli, Paul J. Lukezich

Patent number: 4437462Abstract: An inflatable head harness for quickly orienting and securing a device, such as a respiratory mask, in position on the head of a user. The harness comprises a loop to fit around the head, the loop having a longitudinally elastically extensible outer tube and a folded, inflatable, substantially inelastic inner tube positioned within the outer. The inner tube has a greater length than the outer tube and is positioned therein in folded or pleated form. The inner tube is enlarged by means of pressurized fluid, causing the outer tube to extend longitudinally to thereby increase the diameter of the loop and enable it to be slipped over the head. When the pressure is released, the elasticity of the outer tube causes it to contract longitudinally so that the loop is in gripping engagement with the head of the user.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 1981Date of Patent: March 20, 1984Assignee: Figgie International Inc.Inventors: Robert E. Piljay, Loyal G. Netteland
-
Patent number: 4435851Abstract: An improvement in a shoulder pad of the type comprising a pair of arches which overlie the inner shoulders of the wearer, and a pair of flaps which extend in front-to-back direction over the shoulders for protecting the outer parts of the shoulders. The improvement comprises a flap hinge for hinging each flap to a respective arch. The hinge includes a pair of snubber straps secured at one of their ends to a respective flap at the front and back of the flap. The straps extend from the flap under the arch to the inner edge of the arch, up around the inner edge of the arch and then over the arch back to the flap for securement at their other ends to the flap.Type: GrantFiled: May 14, 1982Date of Patent: March 13, 1984Assignee: Figgie International Inc.Inventors: Hal D. Patent number: 4419110Abstract: A gas filter container for housing a filter capable of filtering gases containing toxic components. The container includes a flexible end wall adapted to be positioned against the body of the user and is secured by means of a series of straps, two of which are adapted to be attached to a harness structure, such as a parachute harness, worn by the user, in a readily separable fashion so that disconnection of the harness will simultaneously free the two straps connected to the gas filter container. The flexible end wall includes inwardly-directed projections to space the wall from the filter inlet when the wall is deflected and thereby maintain a communication path to the filter inlet.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1981Date of Patent: December 6, 1983Assignee: Figgie International Inc.Inventors: William K.
