Patent number: 7258757Abstract: A solar control coating is applied to a first glass pane interior surface and a low-E coating is applied to a second glass pane exterior surface. A safety film is applied over the coating on the interior surface of the first glass pane. The second glass pane has a low-E coating facing the interior of a room. A safety film is applied to the reverse side of the glass. The two glass panes are separated by a spacer and structural silicone is backfilled from each outboard end of the spacer to the coated inside surfaces of the first and second glass panes to form a two-glass pane composite.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2004Date of Patent: August 21, 2007Assignee: Film Technologies International, Inc.Inventors: Haibin Huang, Craig Duncan

Patent number: 7244325Abstract: A metallized coating is applied to a first surface of a multi-layered window film, the coating applied by vacuum deposition to form a laminated film composite. A second surface of the multi-layered window film composite is adhesively attached to a first glass pane. A thin outer edge strip of the outermost layer of the film coated with the metallized layer is removed. A second glass pane is prepared in the same way. The two glass panes are adapted to be mounted in a frame with the first surface of the film coated with the metallized coating facing each other spaced apart with a spacer. A sealant fills a cavity between the two glass panes to form an insulated glass unit.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2004Date of Patent: July 17, 2007Assignee: Film Technologies International, Inc.Inventors: Kenneth Abate, Craig Duncan

Patent number: 7229520Abstract: A film laminating adhesive is formed by admixing a polyester resin and encapsulated metallic flakes. The metallic flakes are encapsulated with a silane in a hydrolyzed condition modified with a surfactant or dispersion agent. A mounting adhesive is applied to an outside surface of a first clear PET film. A silicone liner is adhered to the outside surface. A second PET film is bonded to another side of the first clear film with the film laminating adhesive containing encapsulated metallic flakes to form the spandrel glass film composite adapted for bonding to a glass surface after removal of the silicone liner.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2004Date of Patent: June 12, 2007Assignee: Film Technologies International, Inc.Inventors: Haibin Huang, Verne Joseph R. Patent number: 6833184Abstract: This invention relates to window films and more particularly to a low haze colored window film wherein coloration of the window film is effected with a pigment. The invention further is concerned with a process for the manufacture of the pigmented window film. The window film of this invention is pigmented with a pigment having small particle size wherein the particles are coated with a resin binder which encapsulates the pigment particles. The encapsulated pigment particles are blended into an adhesive which is compatible with the resin binder which is used to encapsulate the pigment particles. The resulting adhesive is used to secure one or more film layers of a composite window film structure together. The resulting films have haze levels which approximate the haze levels of dyed window films. The window films of this invention have outstanding light stability.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2001Date of Patent: December 21, 2004Assignee: Film Technologies International, Inc.Inventors: Ratka Damnjanovic, Haibin Huang

Patent number: 6546692Abstract: Two window panes are each laminated on one side with polyethylene terephthalate film. The film sides are faced towards each other and a spacer of ¼ to {fraction (9/10)} inch width is placed between the coated surfaces of the window panes. An inboard surface of the spacer is positioned level with a top of the framing system. The area between an outside edge of the spacer and the edge of the window panes is backfilled with silicone sealant. The formed composite is then secured in a glazing channel on the window frame with silicone applied in the glazing channel of the window frame.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2001Date of Patent: April 15, 2003Assignee: Film Technologies International, Inc.Inventors: Craig Duncan, James E. Mazzeo, Jr.

Patent number: 6497777Abstract: This invention relates to window films and more particularly to a process for installing window films in such a manner that haze is eliminated and the bond strength between the film and a substrate is enhanced. The window film application process of this invention is concerned with the application of a mounting solution to the window prior to applying the film to the window. The solutions used in this invention are solutions of metal salts of polymeric low molecular weight organic acids. Solutions of the sodium salt of polyacrylic acids are preferred for use in this invention. The concentrations of the low molecular weight organic acid can be from about 1 to about 33 weight percent.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2000Date of Patent: December 24, 2002Assignee: Film Technologies International Inc.Inventor: Haibin Huang

Patent number: 6166852Abstract: The disclosure of this invention relates to window solar control films and more particularly, to window treatment films that incorporate both an ultraviolet absorber and an optical brightner. The disclosure is concerned primarily with a multi layer film construction and method for the enhancement of the optical properties of window treatment films, by the use of optical brightner in at least one layer component of a multi layer window film. The window solar control film has enhanced the optical properties and absorbs most of the ultraviolet radiation. The subject multilayer film absorbs radiation in the range of 300 to 410 n.m. and does not have an undesirable yellowish tint or hue.Type: GrantFiled: October 4, 1997Date of Patent: December 26, 2000Assignee: Film Technologies International, Inc.Inventor: Frank Miro
