  • Patent number: 7025029
Abstract: An air intake, especially for internal combustion engines with a V-shaped cylinder arrangement, which is composed of two units (16a, 16b). From the two units (16a, 16b) extend the intake ducts (19a, 19b), each associated with one cylinder bank (11) of the internal combustion engine. By dividing the air intake device into two units (16a, 16b), the unit (16a) can be mounted first on the internal combustion engine, a free space (20) for the mounting tool being necessary. Then the unit (16b) is placed and bolted on, the air intake ducts (19b) being able to run through the free space (20) in the hatched area (23), since the unit (16a) is already installed. The advantage of this air intake tube configuration is a substantially greater geometric freedom of design.

  • Patent number: 6966981
Abstract: A replaceable filter cartridge assembly for a liquid filter and a liquid filter in which such a filter cartridge is installed. The filter cartridge 10 is provided with a support element 15, and a seat 20 for a sealing membrane 19 is provided on the support element 15. The sealing membrane seals the inlet 22 of the housing via a sealing edge 21 that acts as a return flow barrier over the inlet. The sealing membrane 19 also has a radial sealing surface 23 to provide a seal between the support element 15 and the outlet port 24 of the filter. This permits the filter cartridge to be manufactured in a particularly cost-effective manner and assures simple mounting within the housing. Since only the filter cartridge, which can be pushed onto the support element 15, needs to be exchanged, very little material has to be disposed of when the filter is replaced, which further increases the cost-effectiveness of the filter in use.

  • Patent number: 6893561
Abstract: A housing configuration for a liquid filter in which the housing is cup-shaped and is produced by a molding technique. The housing lid or lid is secured to the housing (10) by a course of threads (28) which can be produced without forming any undercuts. This is achieved inside an area (30) around the mold parting plane (29) by providing recesses (31) on the course of threads in the horizontal areas. As a result, the thread can be produced directly on the housing by the initial molding technique without any post-molding processing measures, so that manufacturing costs are reduced.

  • Patent number: 6886517
Abstract: An intake head device for an internal combustion engine, which is suitable for impulse charging and/or residual exhaust gas purging, including a pressure accumulator (24) which may apply overpressure to the pressure passage via a pressure passage, so that this produces residual exhaust gas purging of the cylinder (16) when the inlet valve (18) is open and the impulse flap (21) is closed. The impulse charging is performed by a partial vacuum which is generated in the accumulator passage (22) by the air intake of the cylinder (16). The pressure accumulator arrangement of the invention has the advantage that the closing time of the flap (21) may be longer.

  • Patent number: 6884273
Abstract: A multicell cyclone with a plurality of cyclone cells and a method for the production thereof, in which the cyclone cells of the multicell cyclone are combined into groups from which deposited particles are cleaned out by vacuum suction through channel structures. This permits better control of the discharge of separated particles. Vacuum suction of the separated particles can be effected, for instance, via openings (19) which are jointly provided for the group (21) of cyclone cells. The group of cyclone cells can furthermore be produced as a module, which can, for instance, be assembled from two parts (12, 13) in which like structural elements of a group of cyclones are combined into one respective part. This makes it possible to optimize the separation result with little structural complexity and at low production cost.

  • Patent number: 6860249
Abstract: An insert for reinforcing a flange component and an intake manifold for an internal combustion engine in which such an insert is used. The insert (14a) is open toward a longitudinal side (17) of the cylinder head flange (13), so that a mounting bolt does not have to be pushed through the passageways (16) formed by the insert, but can be inserted from the side. This offers advantages during mounting, since the intake manifold can be pushed onto pre-mounted bolts, which are subsequently tightened to fix the intake manifold. The intake manifold and the described insert are therefore particularly suitable for cost-effective mounting in tight spaces.

  • Patent number: 6837261
Abstract: A control valve assembly comprising at least two control valves which may be used, for example, to throttle the air intake of an internal combustion engine. The assembly is provided with a centrally arranged, force-transmitting shaft (32). The control valves are formed by blades (15) in frames (16) produced by an assembly injection molding process. The control valve blades (15) can be molded onto the force-transmitting shaft (32). The resulting assembly can be mounted or installed as a unit. Alternatively, instead of using a single continuous shaft, shaft projections can be injection molded on the valve blades, which terminate in lugs which engage in a rotationally secure manner in sockets in an adjacent valve assembly so that the two assemblies rotate together as a unit. The resulting control valve assembly is easy to install and advantageously takes up only a little space.

  • Patent number: RE38855
Abstract: A centrifugal separtor for non-cohesive particulates, such as are found in transmission oils and hydraulic liquids, rather than the cohesive combustion products found within internal combustion engine lubricants, consists of a housing enclosing a vertical spindle on which spins a liquid reaction driven rotor container. The container is divided internally by inwardly extending partition wall into separate outflow chambers. Non-cohesive particulates which separate from the liquid, and are held against the peripheral side wall by centrigual force during rotation, slump therefrom in the absence of rotation and risk forming a slurry that gets carried to the outflow chamber.

  • Patent number: RE39704
Abstract: A self-powered centrifugal separator, for separating particulate contaminants from a liquid lubricant of an automobile engine, includes a rotor container rotatable about an axle to which it is journalled by bushes. When the engine is running, a film of pressurized liquid between the bushes and axle lubricates them and provides radial stiffness, but when the engine stops and liquid supply ceases, radial stiffness is reduced and the partially emptying container may vibrate and create wind-down noise. At least one bush, which normally provides a horizontal thrust bearing to support the weight of the container at low speed, has, with the axle portion it surrounds, a region tapering in diameter to center the container with respect to the axle and provide both radial and axial support.
