Abstract: The present invention relates a coordinate input device to input a variety of job commands, diagrams or characters, and to store or output the input data. More particularly, the present invention provides an input device for recognizing hybrid coordinates and a method of operating the device. The input device uses an absolute coordinate recognition method and a relative coordinate recognition method in a combined fashion as a coordinate recognition method for inputting the track of the characters or diagrams. By doing so, input coordinates are converted into absolute coordinates, and the tracks of handwritten characters and diagrams are stored as the converted absolute coordinates such that the tracks are displayed on a display of the input device or on a monitor of an information terminal connected to the input device.

Abstract: A system and method of recognizing absolute coordinates are provided. The absolute coordinate recognition system includes: a pattern recording medium in which each cell is diagrammatized, and a predetermined microcode is allocated to the pattern formed by each arrangement of the diagrammatized cells; a pattern sensing unit recognizing the microcode by sensing the pattern; and a signal processing unit calculating the position of the pattern sensing unit on the pattern recording medium, from the sensed pattern. By constructing the simpler patterns of the pattern recording medium, the absolute coordinate recognition system and method therefor enable imaging system and image sensor with not-high resolutions to recognize the patterns.

Abstract: A pen-type optical mouse device indicates a cursor position or inputs writing or a movement of the pen-type optical mouse. An aspect of the pen-type optical mouse is to calculate coordinate values of the mouse device in accordance with a movement of the pen-type optical mouse device. The pen-type optical device includes an image sensor on a side of the interior of a main body of pen-type the mouse device, thereby allowing the pen-type optical mouse device to be slim and easy to hold.
