Abstract: The smoke detector includes: a chamber (1) provided with apertures (3) allowing the smoke to enter a detection area (D), a light source (S) configured to emit towards the detection area (D), and a light receiver (R) configured so as to receive the light coming from the detection area (D). A concentration element (6, 7) is provided so as to create a non-uniform electric field in the detection area (D), that, in the presence of smoke, can polarize smoke particles entering the detection area (D). The non-uniform electric field has a spatial gradient configured to exert a dielectrophoretic force on the smoke particles so as to drive the polarized smoke particles into a concentration zone (C) in the detection area (D) and to aggregate them together to form quasi “big particles”.
