  • Patent number: 5657859
Abstract: A device and method for adjusting the height at which an alarm pull-station may be actuated. The device and method involve the use of a mechanical system in mechanical communication with an alarm pull-station. The height at which existing alarm pull-stations may be actuated is decreased without structurally, mechanically or electronically altering existing pull-stations. The device for adjusting the height at which an alarm pull-station may be actuated includes an alarm trigger operatively engageable with an alarm trigger lever of the pull-station, a rod operatively associated with the alarm trigger, and a mounting portion operatively associated with the rod, wherein the mounting portion is attached to a fixed structure and the device is disposed externally of the alarm pull-station. A spring is used between elements of the device to inhibit any unwanted downward movement of the device.

  • Patent number: 4672374
Abstract: A remote sensing and control system wherein a plurality of remote sensing units are connected to a central control and monitoring console by only four interconnecting wires. A clock signal is converted to a plurality of parallel address signals at the local monitoring console and also at the remote sensing units located up the building. A sync signal is employed to synchronize all of the serial-to-parallel converters in the system, and each remote unit is provided with a specific code and is identified by selectively routing one or more signals through an inverter located at each unit so that the signals trigger a logic device in the particular time slot assigned to each remote unit. The input circuitry of each remote sensing unit compares two reference signals derived from the least significant bit of the address signals with the return signal from the sensing device to sense for opens, grounds, normal conditions, and alarms.

  • Patent number: 4665383
Abstract: A central protection system suitable for the protection of a building from fire and other hazards includes a set of environmental sensors and circuitry for interrogating the sensors. The system also includes communication and control lines, as well as monitoring circuitry having individual channels coupled to respective ones of the communication and control lines. An inaudible pilot tone of subsonic frequency may be coupled to a communication line, and the corresponding channel of the monitoring circuit includes a detector of the pilot tone. A circuit for the generation of evacuation signals and fire brigade signals is composed of two sections coupled in tandem, and includes sequencing circuitry for the recycling of tones produced by the respective sections.

  • Patent number: 4375637
Abstract: A fully integrated alarm, communication, and building management system has a central control station and a plurality of remotely located sensing and controlling devices. Each remote device has an individual digital address, which is a parallel address present on a plurality of parallel lines. The parallel address is converted to a serial address and sent to the various remote locations where it is then reconverted to a parallel address and decoded to determine the specific device being interrogated. A multiple amplifier system is provided at the central control unit and provides communication capability involving remotely located loudspeakers and microphones. The amplifiers are provided in a dual channel arrangement so as to provide a fail-safe arrangement and a failure detector is located in each channel such that if a selected amplifier channel fails, the back-up or redundant channel is immediately switched into use.
