Patent number: 5940891Abstract: A goggle mounting system for retaining a pair of goggles to the lower edge of a helmet or the like. The goggle retention system comprises a plurality of clips, each clip having a base mounted to a helmet, and a removable eyelet shaped to receive and retain the goggles. Each base has an oblong slot extending therethrough and is shaped to receive and retain an associated eyelet. Each base further includes a pair of transverse locking notches and a helical camming surface extending between the slot and the notches. Each eyelet includes a generally circular ring to retain the goggle strap, and a pair of spaced, parallel legs extending from the ring. Each eyelet further includes a pair of opposed, spaced feet at the ends of the legs. The feet are shaped to pass through the slot when the feet are oriented lengthwise of the slot.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1997Date of Patent: August 24, 1999Assignee: Firequip Helmets, Inc.Inventor: Abbott Atwood Lane

Patent number: 5555569Abstract: A safety helmet and face mask system having an interface for suspending both the helmet and the face mask on a wearer's head by a single support web, thereby eliminating the need for separate support assemblies. The system includes a helmet having a shell and liner, hooks attached to opposite sides of the liner, and a face mask having a pair of O-rings slidably mounted on straps attached at upper and lower points on opposite sides of the mask. The O-rings releasably engage the hooks on the helmet liner to integrally interconnect the helmet and liner. Buckles are located on the sides of the mask so that the effective lengths of the straps between points of connection to the mask can be varied to draw the mask and helmet together and seat the helmet and mask properly on the wearer's head. The interface provides both horizontal and vertical support for the mask by a single strap on each side of the mask.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1994Date of Patent: September 17, 1996Assignee: Firequip Helmets, Inc.Inventor: Abbott A. Patent number: 4766609Abstract: A fire fighter helmet of the type having a body which includes a peripheral brim, an arcuate face shield having an inwardly extending lip and a flexible gasket on the underside of the lip for forming a watertight seal with the brim when the shield is in a down position, and a pair of hinges attached to opposite sides of the helmet body and pivotably attached to the face shield. The hinges each include a hinge plate and a spring which is connected at one end to the shield and at an opposite to the hinge plate rearwardly and below the pivot connection between the hinge plate and face shield. The hinge plate also includes a stop defining an upper limit of travel for the face shield. The spring urges the shield to pivot either to an up position against the stop, or to a down position in which the gasket forms a watertight seal with the adjacent portion of the helmet body brim.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1987Date of Patent: August 30, 1988Assignee: Firequip Helmets, Inc.Inventor: Abbott A.
