  • Publication number: 20130246258
Abstract: A system and method for managing payment in a transaction using a portable computing device (“PCD”) includes a mobile wallet token being received from an account issuing entity. Next, the mobile wallet token is stored in memory within a PCD payment platform (i.e., a cloud payment solution). A PCD token that corresponds with the mobile wallet token is generated by the PCD payment platform. The PCD token is transmitted over a communications network to a PCD. The mobile wallet token corresponds to at least one of: a credit card account, an alternative or non-traditional payment account, a stored value account, an account from a financial institution, and a merchant based card account. A mobile wallet token may be generated in response to receiving input from an on-line portal that future use of a payment account with a PCD is desired or in response to input received from a point-of-sale terminal.

Abstract: A mobile wallet token is received from an account issuing entity. Next, the mobile wallet token is stored in memory within a portable computing device payment platform. A selection of an account for payment in a transaction is received from the PCD. The selected account is matched with the mobile wallet token and then the mobile wallet token is transmitted over a communications network. A pattern preserving token is then received from the communications network with the portable computing device payment platform for use to authorize payment in the transaction. The mobile wallet token corresponds to at least one of: a credit card account, an alternative or non-traditional payment account, a stored value account, an account from a financial institution, and a merchant based card account. A mobile wallet token may be generated by using an on-line portal to indicate the mobile payments are desired by the account holder.

  • Publication number: 20130211900
Abstract: A method and system include verifying credentials for gaining access to a central mobile payment controller using the portable computing device (“PCD”). The central mobile payment controller may receive a merchant identifier corresponding to a vending machine and then it may compare the merchant identifier against loyalty account data stored in a database. The central mobile payment controller through a tender steering module may determine if a profile of the portable computing device is associated with a merchant branded payment account and/or with a merchant branded stored value account. The central mobile payment controller may produce a message that lists one or more preferred payment options in a ranked fashion that may favor a merchant based on interchange rates for completing a transaction at the vending machine.

  • Publication number: 20130181045
Abstract: A system and method for providing a personalized shopping experience with a portable computing device (“PCD”) are described. The system and method may include checking-in PCD consumers upon entering an establishment of a merchant. The checking-in of the PCD consumer may include verifying credentials for gaining access to a central mobile payment controller and receiving a merchant identifier corresponding to a merchant from a computer communications network. Next, a scan of a machine-readable code associated with at least one of a good and a service may be received. Information associated with the machine-readable code may be retrieved from a database. Subsequently, a personalized price for the at least one good or service may be determined by applying one or more rules. The personalized price may be transmitted over a computer communications network to the portable computing device for display to the PCD consumer.

  • Publication number: 20130185214
Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method that provides a merchant associated with a point of sale (“POS”) system and a consumer associated with a portable computing device (“PCD”) to complete a purchase transaction without transmitting or presenting confidential payment credentials. In an exemplary embodiment, sound is used to transmit data between the POS and the PCD. A payment request is rendered on the PCD. The consumer reviews and authorizes via a unique cryptographic signature. The merchant approves via addition of its unique cryptographic signature. A remote service in communication with the POS verifies the signatures via previously registered public keys. The transaction is then settled to a consumer account. Confirmation is returned to the POS and PCD. Advantageously, the transaction is commenced and completed without the PCD being online. Further, the consumer payment credentials are not stored on the PCD or transmitted from the PCD to the merchant POS system.

  • Publication number: 20130159178
Abstract: A method and system include receiving a payment account number from a token, such as a traditional credit card. Either the payment account number or a token is communicated over a communications network to a mobile wallet system and/or a vault. A first authorization code may be generated in response to receiving the payment account number or token. Next, the first authorization code is then transmitted over the communications network for relaying the first authorization code to a portable computing device, such as a mobile phone. The portable computing device receives the authorization code and re-transmits the code (as a second authorization code) over the communications network. Subsequently, the first and second code from the portable computing device are compared to determine if a match exists. If a match exists, then the payment account number is loaded into the mobile wallet system for use as a virtual token.

  • Publication number: 20130046637
Abstract: A method and system for interactively promoting the sale of a product or service are described. The method and system includes capturing an image of a consumer with a video camera. Next, a biometric scan of the image may be conducted to determine if at least one biometric has been recognized from the scan. The biometric scan usually comprises a facial recognition scan. If one biometric has been recognized from the scan, the system may access a database comprising biometrics associated with at least one of browsing history, purchase history, and preference data associated with a consumer. The system may then display advertising images on a display device comprising a product or service augmented with one or more images of the consumer and which correspond with data stored in the database. The system may convey options for initiating a sale and preserving the sale of the product or service.

  • Publication number: 20130013501
Abstract: Methods and systems for making a financial payment to a payee via a stored value (SV) card utilizing a mobile device such as a mobile telephone (cellphone) or wireless connected personal digital assistant (PDA). The mobile device communicates wirelessly with a mobile financial transaction system (MFTS) that stores user information and transaction information. A user enters information via the mobile device identifying a payee and indicating a stored value card payment method. The mobile device generates a mobile payment instruction that includes information corresponding to the identified payee and indicating a stored value card payment method. The mobile payment instruction is wirelessly communicated to the MFTS. The MFTS generates an MFTS payment instruction to a payment instruction recipient that can issue a new stored value card and/or reload funds onto a pre-existing stored value card. The MFTS communicates the MFTS payment instruction to the payment instruction recipient.
