Patent number: 4290511Abstract: A load-carrying, shock absorbing strut is provided comprising an outer tube for carrying a wheel axle journal. There is slidably accommodated in the tube a shock absorber cylinder which is connected with the chassis frame. A downwardly emerging piston rod of the cylinder is fastened to the bottom of the outer tube. Between the shock absorber cylinder and the outer tube there is provided a lubricant annular chamber of constant volume which is closed off above and below by upper and lower guide and sealing rings arranged on the outer tube. A sealing ring is arranged above each guide ring with axially limited play and comprise lubricant-sealing felt rings. To effect good dirt-deflecting action there is present above the upper sealing ring a dirt-deflecting ring which has the dual function of limiting the sealing ring axial play as well as removing dirt from the shock absorber cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 1979Date of Patent: September 22, 1981Assignee: Firma August BilsteinInventors: Johannes J. de Baan, Adolf Adrian

Patent number: 4194725Abstract: A vehicle jack having a support leg (10) on which is pivotable a support arm (23) by means of a threaded spindle (17) which is pivotally mounted in both the support leg and the support arm. A support plate (26) which may be provided with a depression (28) for receiving a fold (29) of a vehicle body is pivotally mounted on the free end of the support arm about a pivot axis (34).Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 1979Date of Patent: March 25, 1980Assignee: Firma August BilsteinInventor: Willi Erschens

Patent number: 4129286Abstract: A vehicle lifting jack has a hollow support leg with a slot extending axially along one side thereof, and a load bearing member is slidably mounted within the leg and projects through the axial slot. The load bearing member is displaced vertically by rotation of a threaded spindle that is driven by a driving pinion and a gear wheel meshed therewith. The gear wheel is associated with an axial bearing that engages a bearing plate, and the bearing plate is mounted at the upper end of the support leg by engagement between projections of the bearing plate and an upwardly open depression at, and a transverse slot near, the top of the support leg.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1977Date of Patent: December 12, 1978Assignee: Firma August BilsteinInventor: Wolfgang Anell

Patent number: 4106596Abstract: A damper cylinder is partially filled with highly compressed gas and with operating fluid. A damping piston and connected rod portion are reciprocally movable in the cylinder operating fluid. A partition wall is fixedly mounted in the inner periphery of the cylinder and is interposed between the piston and a highly compressed gas chamber in the cylinder. The partition wall has valves opening in turn during the in and out movements of the damping piston and rod; the valve which opens during the outward movement of the working piston and rod having a closing force approximately equal to the product of such compressed gas and the effective cross-section of such outward movement valve.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1976Date of Patent: August 15, 1978Assignee: Firma August BilsteinInventor: Erwin Hausmann

Patent number: 4093182Abstract: A vehicle jack in which a push rod is displaced during the later portions of the operation of the actuating member to tilt the support leg and bring into play an additional support surface for stabilizing purposes. The actuating member raises a lifting arm pivotally connected to the support leg and can be a threaded spindle.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1977Date of Patent: June 6, 1978Assignee: Firma August BilsteinInventor: Hugo Rutenbeck

Patent number: 3989225Abstract: A shear-type vehicle jack has an arm articulated to a leg whose foot is provided with a rolling formation adapted to rest upon the ground and a larger locating portion. A crank rotates a thread spindle in a nut pivotally received in the upper end of the leg and engaging the arm with a bearing arrangement. The free end of the arm has carrying formations adapted to engage the vehicle chassis in a manner free from bending moments.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1975Date of Patent: November 2, 1976Assignee: Firma August BilsteinInventor: Friedrich Keilholz

Patent number: 3958672Abstract: A hydropneumatic shock absorber for use with a motor vehicle or the like has disposed therein a valve, which is movable in the normal course of operation relative to a fluid passage. A heat sensitive element sensitive to the temperature of a damping fluid, such as oil, of the shock absorber is connected to the valve whereby the valve is urged from flow-preventing engagement with the passage after a predetermined damping fluid temperature is reached. Thus the provided valve permits increased damping fluid movement through the passage with temperatures in excess of the predetermined temperature.Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1974Date of Patent: May 25, 1976Assignee: Firma August BilsteinInventor: Friedrich Keilholz
