    Abstract: A wound dressing comprising at least five layers, the two outer layers comprising a permeable material non-adherent to a wound, below each outer layer there being arranged an absorbent layer each comprising cellulosic fibers, the absorbent layers being separated by a distribution layer comprising at least one of cellulose, carboxymethyl cellulose and a starch polymer. Advantageously the outer layers comprise a nonwoven fleece, a knit or woven fabric, or a perforated plastic sheet of at least one of polypropylene, polyethylene, polyesters, and polyamides, and the periphery of at least one of the outer layers carries a self-adhering adhesive inert to the skin. The entire structure is needled and, if fibrous, the outer layers are lightly thermally bonded so as to be fuzz-free.

    Abstract: The performance of an eddy current brake is controlled by controlling the magnetic flux in its housing by changing the energizing voltage of the energizing coil of the brake in accordance with a signal obtained by comparing a signal representative of the desired brake performance with a signal representative of the actual magnetic flux measured in the housing at a location of substantially homogeneous flux distribution. The desired performance signal may be a signal representative of the difference between a desired rotational speed signal and the actual rotational speed signal, or it may be a signal representative of the difference between a desired torque signal and an actual torque signal. The desired performance signal may also be a signal representative of the difference between a signal obtained by comparing desired and actual rotational speed signals with a signal representative of actual torque. A Hall generator is used to measure actual flux.

    Abstract: A workbench has a pair of rigid wooden work plates bridging and fixed to a pair of transverse support elements from which extend legs constituting a foldable stand. The work plates are each formed with a plurality of throughgoing bores into which pegs of a clamp and holding blocks may fit, these pegs being smaller than the bores so that the blocks and clamp tip when acted upon parallel to the work surface. The faces of the blocks and clamp are inclined to be perpendicular to the work surface when the pegs are thus tipped. The legs of the stand can fold parallel to each other and flat against the work table when the workbench is not in use.

    Abstract: In an apparatus for the continuous pressing and decatizing of fabric, a pressure belt serves to move a fabric undergoing treatment around a rotatably-mounted and heatable cylinder. The pressure belt directly contacts the fabric to press it against the cylinder. The surface of the pressure belt is arranged to be heated by a heating roller around which the belt passes prior to passage around the cylinder. The cylinder and heating roller can be independently heated to different temperatures to produce a temperature differential across the fabric as it is pressed. As a result, moisture condensation preferentially occurs on one side of the fabric causing luster reduction on that side of the fabric.

    Abstract: A filter centrifuge for the separation of solid and liquid components in a suspension in which a filter cloth is used. The filter cloth is inserted in the drum of the centrifuge and is removably fastened at one side about the periphery of an aperture in the drum. The filter cloth is flexible and may be turned inside out to discharge solid materials after the centrifuging operation. To prevent the flexible filter cloth from becoming pressed into the openings of the centrifuge drum by the force of the centrifuging process and the weight of the solid material, a supporting screen is inserted between the inner wall and the drum of the filter cloth. The screen is in the form of longitudinal rods from which the filter cloth is easily removed even if the gaps between the rods are penetrated to a slight extent.
