Reconfiguration of diesel-powered haul truck with hybrid hydrogen fuel cell and battery power supply
Patent number: 11938805Abstract: The present disclosure provides a mining haul truck with the diesel-powered components removed, the resulting available volumes retrofitted with components of a hybrid hydrogen fuel cell/battery-based powerplant. In some embodiments, the tray and/or the canopy of the haul truck can be replaced or reconfigured to create an additional volume for receiving components of the hybrid hydrogen fuel cell/battery-based powerplant.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2023Date of Patent: March 26, 2024Assignee: First Mode IPP LimitedInventors: Joshua M. Patent number: 11824234Abstract: The present disclosure provides a fuel cell electrical power system, a first fuel cell module, a second fuel cell module, a heat exchanger, a common coolant, a first coolant piping branch, and a second coolant piping branch. A first pump and a first valve are disposed on the first coolant branch, and a second pump and a second valve are disposed on the second coolant branch. The fuel cell electrical power system is capable of functioning in a condition in which the second fuel cell module and the second pump are not operating to cause substantially all of the flow rate of coolant fluid produced by the first pump to circulate through the common coolant piping and to circulate substantially none of the flow rate of the coolant fluid produced by the first pump through the second fuel cell module.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2022Date of Patent: November 21, 2023Assignee: First Mode IPP LimitedInventors: Adam Knez, Spencer M. Patent number: 11761587Abstract: An apparatus for mobile hydrogen refueling includes a heavy equipment vehicle having a size exceeding highway size constraints and a platform coupled to the vehicle. A hydrogen storage module and a compression module are removably coupleable to the platform. The storage module is configured to store a number of hydrogen tanks. The compression module is configured to compress a flow of hydrogen from a hydrogen tank in the storage module via a manifold to produce a flow of high-pressure hydrogen. A refueling interface is configured to engage a refueling interface of a hydrogen powerplant and to selectively convey a flow of high-pressure hydrogen from the compression module. In some implementations, the compression module can include a chiller configured to cool the high-pressure hydrogen provided to the refueling interface. In some implementations, a power module is configured to provide electric power to at least the compression module and/or the vehicle.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2022Date of Patent: September 19, 2023Assignee: First Mode IPP LimitedInventor: James A.
