Abstract: A pump has a reciprocably driven rod disposed in a quantity of fluid to be pumped, there being an outlet from the fluid chamber. A pair of elements respectively disposed at the outlet opening and on the end of the rod are separable and jointly define a pumping cavity which is filled when the elements are separated. When the elements are brought together, pumping is achieved in that one of the elements is yieldably compressible so as to reduce the size of the pumping cavity to force out a drop of fluid. A stirrer is disposed near the above-mentioned elements, and reciprocatory motion of the rod is transferred to a one-way clutch to provide incremental rotation of the stirrer.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for use with a sewing machine by which a liquid is injected between lapped layers of material being sewn. A supply of the liquid at atmospheric pressure is fed by gravity to a constant displacement pump, the pump being actuated by a driven part of the sewing machine so that pumping rate is proportional to sewing rate. The outlet of the pump passes through a line which divides under the control of valve means. One branch of the line leads to a tube that is disposed in a folder, the tube having a discharge end projecting from the folder and disposed just upstream of the sewing machine needle(s). A further flattening roller is disposed after the presser foot through which the needles reciprocate. The other branch of the line is a return line that leads back to the reservoir.
Abstract: Heat-fusible hair-like fibers, disposed as a tow in a flat manner, are provided a narrow common bond by being thermally fused together transversely to the direction of the tow, such fused bonds being provided at increments along the length of the tow to sever such increments from the tow, the bonds being split lengthwise of the bonds and the increments being mechanically severed intermediate the bonds to provide flat bundles of hair-like fibers whose strands lie in a generally common direction and which strands have a narrow common bond at only one end. The bond is brittle and the user is readily enabled to separate a portion of the fibers as a unit from the article for use, for instance as a fishing lure component.
