Patents Assigned to Flachglass Aktiengesellschaft
  • Patent number: 4910380
Abstract: A motor-vehicle window comprises a glass pane having an outer edge and a peripheral black obscuration band extending around the pane edge and leaving a central portion of the pane clear and unobstructed. This band is at least partially formed of a coating-deposited black conductor capable of generating heat when an electric current is passed through it. Thus an electrical current can be passed through the conductor to heat at least a portion of the pane at the obscuration band. The conductor may be positioned side-by-side with the band, disposed in a recess in the band or overlie the band. The conductor may define a heated wiper rest zone on the window.

  • Patent number: 4804883
Abstract: Front attachment unit for the cathode ray tube of monitors, television sets or the like, consisting of a sheet of glass, in particular a sheet of gray glass, anti-reflection equipment on the front side and an absorption coating on the rear side, whereby the absorption coating has metallic atoms. The absorption coating is single-layer and made of chromium, a chromium/nickel alloy or silicides. It is anti-statically adjusted and grounded. It is of a thickness which reduces the light transmission compared with a non-coated sheet of glass by approximately a third.

  • Patent number: 4768319
Abstract: A device for securing an automotive glass pane in an automotive body makes use a molded frame secured to the periphery of the glass pane and provided with a rearwardly projecting U-shaped recess internally formed with saw-teeth which can engage saw-teeth on a ledge or projection of a strip for a U-shaped receptacle body flange of the vehicle extending parallel to the pane. The sealing strip is affixed at least to a web of the frame and bears upon the body.

  • Patent number: 4739586
Abstract: Method and apparatus for the edge grinding of a glass pane in which a grinding wheel is guided to the glass pane so that a grinding point is defined therebetween which travels along the edge of the rotating wheel. Cooling during grinding is provided by a coolant jet dispensed from a nozzle whose end is essentially pointed towards the grinding point. Via a respective control unit, the coolant jet is caused to follow automatically and precisely the movement of the grinding point.

  • Patent number: 4707958
Abstract: A rigid window pane having an edge is mounted in a rigid window opening having a rigid border with an annular gasket by first providing on the outer periphery of the gasket a layer of adhesive and fitting the gasket around the edge of the pane. Then the pane carrying the gasket is fitted to the window opening with the adhesive layer engaging the opening border and at the same time the pane carrying the gasket is heated and pressed into this opening to soften the gasket until it externally deforms plastically to complementarily fit the opening border. Subsequently the gasket is cooled and cured so it hardens and retains the shape imparted to it by the heat and pressure. The gasket is formed of a thermoplastic synthetic resin or of a vulcanizable or polymerizable, that is heat-curing, synthetic resin or rubber. The polymerization can include the processes of polycondensation or polyaddition.

  • Patent number: 4676998
Abstract: The drying of a hydrated alkali metal silicate aqueous solution on a substrate to produce a light-transmissive fire-resistant layer is carried out at a temperature of about 100.degree. C. in a drying chamber which is initially filled with water vapor. An operation of the water vapor is condensed and the atmosphere is replenished with helium, oxygen, nitrogen or a mixture thereof so that during the drying, the atmosphere consists at least 90% by volume of water vapor and one or more of these gases, the balance being nitrogen and/or argon and/or sulfur hexafluoride.

  • Patent number: 4426811
Abstract: A method of grinding glass sheets whose edges are polygons that are not symmetrical about a point is carried out in an apparatus having a supply station for supporting a stack of such sheets with all of the sheets in the stack in vertical registration, a grinding station adjacent the supply station having a grinding table rotatable about an upright grinding axis and adapted to support the sheets during grinding, a template secured to the grinding table, and a pair of grinders in the grinding station radially engageable with the edges of the sheet on its grinding table and radially displaceable by the template. The method of the invention comprises the steps of transporting the sheets one at a time from the stack in the supply station to the grinding station, simultaneously engaging the grinders with the sheet in the grinding station while rotating this grinding table with its template and the sheet on the table through 180.degree.

  • Patent number: 4406091
Abstract: An apparatus for grinding the edges of glass sheets comprises a device for supporting a stack of such sheets at a supply station, a table adjacent this supply station and dimensioned to support one of the sheets with its sheet edge overhanging the table, a transport carriage displaceable between the supply station and the table, and lifters on the carriage for picking up a sheet in the supply station, transporting the picked-up sheet to above the table, and for depositing the picked-up sheet on the table. The apparatus is provided with horizontally displaceable pushers on the carriage engageable with the sheet edge of a sheet on the table for horizontally displacing the sheet on the table into a predetermined position relative to the template edge.
