Patent number: 9346622Abstract: A tracking apparatus and method for urging a mistracking conveyor belt back towards a correct travel path are provided. The apparatus and method both utilize downstream shifting of an end portion of an idler roller due to mistracking of the conveyor belt for directing or steering the belt back toward its correct travel path and a reaction force from the belt due to the steering thereof for energizing a tilting action of the idler roller to raise the downstream end portion thereof. In this manner, the tilting of the idler roller is not mechanically coupled to the downstream shifting of the roller end portion allowing the belt tracking apparatus herein to be bi-directional for use with conveyor belts that may be run in opposite travel directions.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2013Date of Patent: May 24, 2016Assignee: Flexible Steel Lacing CompanyInventors: Daniel J. Patent number: 9316285Abstract: A belt fastener is provided where, in one form, a washer is assembled on a bolt that extends through a recessed aperture in a lower plate of the belt fastener. An inclined cup wall of the lower plate extends toward the recessed aperture and is for seating of the bolt head thereagainst with the shank extending through the aperture. In accordance with one aspect, the washer is sized to fit into the area of the aperture so that when an upper plate is applied to the belt ends for clamping the belt ends between the upper plate and the lower plate, the washer can be shifted into the aperture area and, if necessary, into the recess formed by the cup. In this manner, the washer is not extruded over the lower cup in contrast to larger washers of prior belt fasteners.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2012Date of Patent: April 19, 2016Assignee: Flexible Steel Lacing CompanyInventor: Mark Alan DeMont

Patent number: 9090022Abstract: A portable belt splicing apparatus is provided for joining the ends of one or more conveyor belts together. In one form, the belt splicing apparatus has upper and lower platens, with one formed of a metallic material that allows for operational deflection of the platens under elevated operation pressures while resisting permanent deformation upon being subjected to elevated operation temperatures. An elongate central region of the platens is heated by a heating element and the metallic material restricts the flow of heat from the elongate central region to elongate side edge portions so that the side edge portions remain cooler. In another form, a self-contained portable conveyor belt splicing apparatus is provided having an on-board fan device for rapid cooling of the clamped belt end and platens. An on-board control system is configured to receive power from different types of standard power supplies and supplies power to on-board components.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2010Date of Patent: July 28, 2015Assignee: Flexible Steel Lacing CompanyInventor: Joannes Stefanus van't Schip
