Abstract: Methods and systems for a complete vehicle ecosystem are provided. Specifically, systems that when taken alone, or together, provide an individual or group of individuals with an intuitive and comfortable vehicular environment. The present disclosure includes a system to create, modify, and maintain profiles associated with users. The user profiles are generated based on selectively collecting data associated with the users. Although each user profile may include settings, preferences, habits, and content associated with an individual user and/or vehicle, some user profiles may represent multiple users. These user profiles can change a configuration of a vehicle to match settings for a user, such as a driver and/or passenger. The configurations may also include the recognition of a unique set of gestures for a user. Further, the user profiles can be transferred from vehicle-to-vehicle and/or user-to-user.

  • Patent number: 8858583
Abstract: A lancing device (e.g., pen) having an integrated thermoelectric (e.g., Peltier) cooler. The lancing device includes an elongated heat accumulator having a lumen along which a piston having a lancet thereon translates back and forth. A Peltier device and a cooling ring are thermally interconnected to one end of the heat accumulator and include central apertures through which the lancet can extend. The lancing device also includes an integrated battery and microcontroller for supplying and regulating power to the Peltier device. Upon a current being sent through the Peltier device, a cold side of the Peltier device and hence the cooling ring gives up thermal energy and reduces in temperature. The cooling ring can then be placed about a body tissue (e.g., skin) for a period of time (e.g., 3-5 seconds) to desensitize the body tissue, and then the lancet can be fired to puncture the body tissue.

  • Patent number: 8853884
Abstract: Systems and methods (“utility”) are provided for reducing the no-load (standby) power of power devices such as chargers for electronic devices and power converters for electronic devices. The utility may include a controllable switch that is operative to decouple circuitry of the power device from a power source under certain no-load conditions. In one embodiment, the utility provides a switch control module that is operative to sense when an electronic device is coupled to the power device, and in response, to control the switch to couple the power device to the power source. The switch control module may also be operative to detect a condition when the electronic device is no longer drawing power from the power device, and in response, to control the switch to decouple the power device from the power source.

  • Patent number: 8842450
Abstract: A resonant power converter draws current from a source that provides a supply current. Multiple quasi-resonant converters are interleaved and each quasi-resonant converter receives the supply current and forms a phase-shifted current according to drive signals supplied by a controller. Each phase-shifted current includes a dead-time delay and is phase-shifted relative to the other phase-shifted currents. The dead-time delay is determined as a time value within a calculated dead-time delay range having a dead-time delay minimum and a dead-time delay maximum. The outputs of each quasi-resonant converter are added together thereby reducing the AC components of current. Two, three, or four quasi-resonant power converters can be interleaved, each forming phase-shifted currents that are phase-shifted relative to the other phase-shifted currents.

  • Publication number: 20140266029
Abstract: A power transmission pad is configured to provide wireless power transmission to multiple portable electronic devices where each device is orientation-free relative to the pad. The power transmission pad is also configured to be power adaptive by changing the power transmission level depending on the number of devices being concurrently charged. Each device, is placed within the magnetic field for the purpose of charging the device battery. The power transmission pad includes a sweep frequency generator for generating power transmissions across a frequency spectrum. The number of devices to be charged is determined as well as an optimal frequency for maximum energy transfer to each device. The sweep frequency generator is set to cycle through the optimal frequencies determined for each device.

  • Publication number: 20140266028
Abstract: A power transmission pad is configured to provide wireless power transmission to a receiving device where the receiving device is orientation-free relative to the pad. The pad functions as a transmitter and is magnetically “hot”, meaning the pad generates a magnetic field when powered on. The receiving device, such as a cell phone, tablet, or other portable electronic device, is placed within the magnetic field for the purpose of charging the device battery. In contrast to conventional wireless battery charging systems, there are no restrictions on the orientation of the receiving device relative to the pad. The power transmission pad includes a sweep frequency generator for generating power transmissions across a frequency spectrum. An optimal frequency is determined for maximum energy transfer to the receiving device, and the sweep frequency generator is locked to the determined optimal frequency.
