Example methods may include receiving a first document from a device driver associated with a hardware device, identifying a clinical trial identifier associated with the first document based at least in part on metadata associated with the first document, and determining a first document type of the first document by analyzing contents of the first document. Methods may include managing user permission to access the first document. Methods may further include identifying a folder associated with the clinical trial identifier at which to store the first document based at least in part on the first document type, and assigning a first document state to the first document based at least in part on the first document type of the first document.
