  • Patent number: 4802303
Abstract: An insect trap is provided utilizing a chemical essence to attract flies and a separate poison to kill the flies. The insect trap includes an outer cylindrical shell having openings through which flies can enter and the aroma from the essence can escape. A coaxial inner tube threadedly engages the top inside of the outer shell and extends through an open bottom of the shell. A base is attached to the tube and forms a reservoir inside for receiving a wick saturated with the essence. An outer sleeve containing poison is mounted coaxially to the inner sleeve. A chimney effect is created in the space between the inner tube and outer sleeve. During use, air enters the annular chamber surrounding the inner tube through entry apertures provided in the base of the outer sleeve. The air continues upwardly, entering the inner chamber through entry orifices where it mixes with the essence. The aromatic air exits the inner tube through release orifices.
