  • Patent number: 5965227
Abstract: Cigarette packs, namely hinge-lid packs and soft-cup packs in particular, are designed in such a way that the pack content, namely a cigarette group, is surrounded on all sides by an inner wrapping (11) consisting of paper with a decorative print applied on the outside. For reasons of cost above all, the print is applied only on those surface regions of the inner wrapping (11) which are exposed when the pack (hinge-lid pack) is open or by virtue of construction. The inner wrapping (11) is produced by being severed from a paper web which, depending on the design of the inner wrapping and depending on the folding construction, has printed zones (34, 35), arranged at a distance from one another, or a continuous strip-shaped printed zone (43, 51) located along the edge of the web.

  • Patent number: 5336040
Abstract: Process and apparatus for transporting stacks of blanks for producing (cigarette) packs. For the production of (cigarette) packs made of blanks (10) of thin cardboard, the blanks are delivered in the form of blank stacks (15), mainly in containers (cartons 16). Specially designed cassettes (32) are used for mechanically and mostly automatically conveying the blank stacks (15) to the packaging machines. The cassettes (32) are designed for holding the contents of a carton (16) of blank stacks (15). The cartons (16) are mechanically opened by a cutting unit (39) by way of cutting out a side wall (30). Special extraction units (59) pull out the blank stacks (15) through the open side of the carton and directly deposit these in an adjacent cassette (32). Centrally emptying the cartons (16) and mechanically transporting the blank stacks (15) by means of special implant cassettes (32) result in a mechanized transport circuit for the packaging material.

  • Patent number: 5210992
Abstract: Drying turrets (10) serve for stabilizing the shape of cigarette packs (13) immediately after their completion. For this purpose, the drying turret (10) is provided with a plurality of pockets (11) for receiving the cuboidal cigarette packs (13) in a positive manner. To locally increase the pressure exerted on the cigarette packs (13), at least one of the pocket walls (partition wall 18, inner wall 21, outer wall 23) defining the pocket (11) is provided with a shoulder (37) which exerts the locally increased pressure on the cigarette pack (13) in the pocket (11). This shoulder (37) is particularly arranged in the middle region of a partition wall (18) on a side confronting a pack front panel (14). As a result, the pressure in the region of adhesive bonds (glue spots 33, 34) located in the region of the pack front panel (14) is increased.

  • Patent number: 5205505
Abstract: For the production of cigarettes packages consisting of several components, e.g. soft packages of hinge-lid packages, tin foil and paper or cardboard are processed in packaging machine as various packaging materials. The packaging material is supplied in the form of bobbins (tin foil bobbins 13, paper bobbins 14). The packaging machine is equipped with two bobbin storages (23, 24) for the reception of tin foil bobbins (13) or paper bobbins (14). The bobbin storages (23, 24) are supplied with the various bobbins (13, 14) by a common supplier, i.e. a floor-mounted supplier (15). The various bobbins (13, 14) are removed from the bobbin storages (23, 24) by means of a transversal supplier (transport cog 51) and conveyed to a common downward-delivering bobbin supplier (5) which transports the bobbins to superpositioned bobbin-processing assemblies (42, 43) in which the packaging material is process, i.e. withdrawn from the bobbins.

  • Patent number: 5203953
Abstract: Labels (10), especially revenue stamps, are usually affixed to cuboidal cigarette packs (11). The labels have to be supplied and held ready for being received by the packs (11) in sufficient numbers. The labels (10) are successively severed length- or breadthways from a continuous web of material (17) and are then directly fed into a magazine (14), from which the labels are extracted at the lower end as required. Without any conversion, the type of labels to be processed can be changed by way of (temporarily) manually inserting labels into the magazine which is appropriately designed for this option.

  • Patent number: 5201162
Abstract: A cigarette magazine serves for receiving a small supply of cigarettes (10) and for forming cigarette groups which correspond to the contents of a cigarette pack. For this purpose, the cigarettes (10) are guided into upright magazine shafts (14) in which cigarette rows (15) of superposed cigarettes are formed. The cigarettes (10) are downwardly conveyed in the magazine shafts (14) under gravity. In this process there may occur problems, especially with cigarettes (10) having a filter (29). To ensure a faultless transport, the shaft walls (16) for defining the magazine shafts (14) are designed with a smaller width, such that the filters (29) of the cigarettes (10) are located beyond the region of the shaft walls (16). This ensures a trouble-free downward transport.

  • Patent number: 5195732
Abstract: For the production of packs from (thin) cardboard, blanks (10) are prefabricated and stored as a blank stack (16) in a blank magazine (17) for processing. An extraction member (20) serves for extracting the individual blanks from the underside of the blank magazine (17) and transports the blanks into a discharge-conveyor plane (21). The extraction member (20) is transportable over a small acute angle as a result of a pivoting movement, in order to move the blanks from the blank stack (16) into the discharge-conveyor plane (21). Furthermore, the extraction member (20) is so designed that, immediately after the discharge-conveyor plane (21) is reached, it can be conveyed into an initial position as a result of sideways movements of holding members (23,24) without being disturbed by the blank (10). In the discharge-conveyor plane (21), the blank (10) is fed to drawer rollers (51, 52 etc) by a pushing-off member (pushing fingers 57,58).

  • Patent number: 5183380
Abstract: In the production of (cigarette) packs made of blanks of thin cardboard, the latter are delivered as blank stacks, normally stacked on pallets. The blank stacks delivered in this or other ways have to be continuously filled into supply magazines of high performance packaging machines. It is therefore necessary, particularly because of the high working speed of the packaging machines, to mechanize and to a large extent automate the transport of the blank stacks. Transporting blank stacks is quite problematic because of accelerations and decelerations occurring at the same time. The basic embodiment of the invention therefore provides a so-called endless pocket conveyor between a feed station and a supply magazine, the pockets of the conveyor holding a blank stack each and not only transporting the blank stacks but also fixing them in proper stack position during transport so that individual stacks can be automatically pushed out of the conveyor pockets and into the magazine.

  • Patent number: 5176605
Abstract: Folding mandrels (11) of a folding turret (10) are in the form of elongate thin-walled hollow bodies and are susceptible to mechanical stress. The folding mandrels (11) are monitored by a monitoring unit (13) with inductive tracers (14, 15; 29, 30) as regards correct arrangement and shape. Any changes in the shape of the mandrels actuate an error signal which is is assigned to the respective folding mandrel (11). The tracers may be arranged on one side of the path of movement of the folding mandrels (11) at different distances thereto. Alternatively, tracers can be installed at equal distances on either side of the path of movement of the folding mandrels (11).

  • Patent number: 5174088
Abstract: A process and apparatus for producing bag-like packs including a continuous strand (17) which is formed from packaging material folded in a V-shape and having transverse seams (15). Prepared portions (21) of fibrous filling material are pushed into pockets (18), open at the side, during the continuous transporting of the strand (17) by the apparatus. Thereafter, the pockets (18) are closed at a longitudinal seam (16) formed during the continuous transporting. The packs are formed by being severed from the strand (17). The strand (17) and the portions (21) are transported by synchronously running endless conveyors, and specifically by a spreading ring (27) and a portion turret (35), respectively. The above-mentioned conveyors are mounted axially parallel to each other such that, with synchronous running, the portions (21) are pushed radially out of the portion turret (35) into the pockets (18).
