  • Patent number: 8251137
Abstract: A geometrically optimized expansion cone for radially expanding a tubular member. In some embodiments, the expansion cone includes an annular body having an outer surface. The outer surface includes a linear surface having a constant diameter, a curvilinear surface extending from the linear surface, a recessed surface having a diameter less than the diameter of the curvilinear surface, and a chamfer between the recessed surface and the curvilinear surface. The diameter of the linear surface is substantially equal to an inner diameter of the tubular member after expansion, while the chamfer has a maximum diameter less than an inner diameter of the tubular member prior to expansion. The curvilinear surface has a diameter defined by a radius of curvature which is tangent to the chamfer at the maximum diameter and tangent to the linear surface.

  • Publication number: 20120215399
Abstract: A vehicle is provided with a fuel system, a controller, and a diagnostic module with an orifice, a pressure sensor, and a pump, the module connecting the fuel system to atmosphere. The controller measures a reference pressure across the orifice to provide a threshold, isolates the fuel system, and provides a code in response to comparing a series or measured pressures to the threshold. A method for performing an evaporative leak diagnostic is provided. A valve in a diagnostic module is commanded to a vent position. A pump is operated to measure a reference pressure across an orifice to provide a threshold. A valve is commanded to a test position. The pump is operated to place the fuel system in a low pressure state, and a series of pressures in the fuel system is measured. A diagnostic code is provided after comparing the series of pressures to the threshold.

  • Publication number: 20120210981
Abstract: In one example, a system for a vehicle travelling on a surface is described. The system includes an engine with a cylinder. The cylinder includes a fuel injector that is supplied with gaseous fuel and liquid fuel by a fuel delivery system. The fuel injector is mounted in the vehicle such that the fuel injector inlet faces at least partially toward the road surface. The orientation of the fuel injector enables a quick transition from liquid fuel to gaseous fuel because the gaseous fuel can rise to the injectors and be preferentially injected. Further, various approaches are described from transitioning operation between gaseous and liquid fuel injection.

  • Patent number: 8249749
Abstract: A climate control system includes a control head having a warmer/cooler temperature control for providing relative thermal comfort. A thermal comfort rating (TCR) corresponding to a range of passenger cabin temperatures is determined based upon a comfort level selection by an occupant using the control head. A control strategy employs look-up tables corresponding to the TCR to determine the speed of an electric compressor and the position of a temperature control blend door. The strategy provides for a relatively fast ramp down to a minimum compressor speed to improve fuel economy while maintaining a relative level of thermal comfort.
