Abstract: A computer for a vehicle is programmed to receive fuel level data over a period of time during a refueling operation. Based on the fuel level data, the computer determines that fuel flow rate during one portion of the refueling operation is materially reduced relative to other portions of the refueling operation. The computer is programmed to output a failure mode based on the determination.
Abstract: Various embodiments of the present disclosure provide systems and methods for predictive road sensing to minimize transient electrical load issues in a vehicle. More specifically, various embodiments include a system and method for minimizing electrical load issues in a vehicle by sensing a vehicle's surroundings using sensing devices (such as sensors, or a camera), utilizing detected road condition information to determine a need for starting and/or operating a motor, and preemptively soft starting the motors to avoid a spike in transient load for the vehicular control system.
Abstract: A bumper support beam for a vehicle is provided. The bumper support beam includes an outer and an inner periphery each having six walls. The beam may include a plurality of ribs that may be disposed between the inner and outer periphery of the beam. The ribs may be arranged to define a plurality of triangular cells that increase the compressive strength of the beam.
Abstract: Techniques pertaining to an autonomous police vehicle are described. A method may involve a processor associated with an autonomous vehicle obtaining an indication of violation of one or more traffic laws by a first vehicle. The method may also involve the processor maneuvering the autonomous vehicle to pursue the first vehicle. The method may further involve the processor remotely executing one or more actions with respect to the first vehicle.

Abstract: A method of generating warnings associated with a vehicle is provided. The method broadly includes the steps of: (a) receiving an indication that a warning relating to operation of an electric motor is appropriate; (b) generating a drive current for the electric motor; (c) superimposing a warning signal onto the drive current; and (d) driving the electric motor with the drive current and the superimposed warning signal such that the electric motor produces the warnings. The warning signal may produce an audio warning, a tactile warning, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: A map, including potential obstacles, can be generated by a computing device in a vehicle. An estimated coefficient of friction between the vehicle wheels and a roadway surrounding a stuck vehicle can be generated based on sensor data. A path can be determined based on the map, and the stuck vehicle can be operated based on the path and a determined slip ratio based on the vehicle wheels to unstick the stuck vehicle.

Abstract: A system for connecting a wheel rim to a hub flange of a motor vehicle, having a fastener such a threaded nut or bolt, and a tool which engages the fastener in a positive-locking manner in order to tighten or release the fastener. To provide improved protection against theft of wheel rims and tires, the fastener has an annular groove extending axially from an end surface of the fastener, the groove having an annular base and inner and outer sidewalls shaped to form an undercut wider than an opening of the groove, a recess extending axially below the base for receiving a projection of a complementally-shaped key on the tool to allow rotation of the fastener. The undercut prevents an unauthorized person using a mold-making material, from being able to make an imprint of the groove and producing a tool therefrom to release the fastener.

Abstract: An axle suspension for a vehicle includes a spring assembly with a leaf spring and a connecting arm, wherein the leaf spring supports a vehicle axle and, on an end side, is pivotably connected to a vehicle structure and pivotably connected to the connecting arm. Abstract: Apparatus for measuring an amount of force required to apply a mechanical parking brake of a motor vehicle. The apparatus includes a body adapted for mounting to a parking brake lever of the type which is manually pivotable about an axis to apply a parking brake. First and second force sensors are disposed on the body at different distances from a pivot axis of the lever when the body is mounted to the lever. The force sensors measure force applied to a lower surface of the lever to cause the lever to pivot when the lever is pulled upward to apply the parking brake. An angle sensor is disposed on the body and measures an actuation angle through which the lever pivots about the pivot axis during application of the parking brake. An electronic unit reads respective first and second forces applied to the force sensors during pivoting of the lever, calculating therefrom an effective actuation force applied at a reference point on the lever, and associates the effective actuation force with the actuation angle.
Abstract: A system, comprising a processor and a memory, the memory including instructions to be executed by the processor to pilot a vehicle based on determining first and second lane markers, where lane markers are mathematical descriptions of roadway lane markers applied to a roadway to mark traffic lanes, determine a missing first or second lane marker, and pilot the vehicle for a determined period of time based on a remaining first or second lane marker.

Abstract: A method is described for parking a vehicle in a parking space. In the method, a parking aid device having a function that parks in a parking space on an oncoming lane is activated. An available parking space on the oncoming lane is located via sensors. A starting position of the vehicle on the oncoming lane for automatic parking in the parking space is established such that upon moving the vehicle on the oncoming lane into the established starting position, and the parking aid device automatically parks the vehicle in the parking space.
