  • Publication number: 20240242369
Abstract: Disclosed herein are system, method, and computer program product embodiments for fast point cloud registration for bootstrapping localization in a high-definition (HD) map. A computing device in an autonomous vehicle (AV) derives a query point cloud from a sweep of a light detection and ranging (lidar) sensor device of the AV and a reference point cloud from an HD map. The computing device extracts a first set of features from the query point cloud and a second set of features from the reference point cloud. The computing device calculates a coarse alignment based on a plurality of matches between the first set of features from the query point cloud and the second set of features from the reference point cloud. Finally, the computing device estimates the position-orientation pose of the vehicle by refining the coarse alignment using an iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm.

  • Publication number: 20240239366
Abstract: A system for a vehicle includes an imaging system and a controller. The imaging system outputs a signal that includes scene data of an area to a rear of the vehicle. The controller receives the scene data while a distance between the vehicle and the trailer is altered. The controller identifies a trailer within the area to the rear of the vehicle, identifies a plurality of keypoints of the trailer at a first time point—representing a first position, and identifies the plurality of keypoints of the trailer at a second time point—representing a second position. The controller estimates one or more dimensions of the trailer based on a change between the first position and the second position and determines one or more future vehicle paths based on such estimation. The one or more future vehicle paths correspond with vehicle maneuvers while the trailer is coupled to the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20240239352
Abstract: The disclosure is generally directed to systems and methods for detecting and responding to speeding violations. An example method executed by a processor in a first vehicle (a law-enforcement vehicle, for example) can include receiving, from a vehicle speed detection system, a speed measurement associated with a second vehicle. The processor may determine that the speed of the second vehicle exceeds a threshold speed and may operate a camera to capture an image of the second vehicle. The image may be evaluated for determining at least one identifying feature of the second vehicle. A record may then be generated. The record can include the speed measurement, the image, and the first identifying feature. In some cases, the record may be transmitted to another law-enforcement vehicle for pursuing the second vehicle and/or to an Internet-of-Things (IoT) roadside unit for tracking the second vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20240239303
Abstract: The disclosure is generally directed to systems and methods for controlling access to electrical power outlets in a vehicle. An example method executed by a processor may include determining that the vehicle is in a key-off state and detecting a door of the vehicle being opened (or detecting the door being unlocked by use of a passive entry device) when the vehicle is in the key-off state. A time period may be provided after the first door is opened or unlocked so as to allow an individual to operate a switch for coupling an electrical power source to an electrical power outlet in the vehicle. The electrical power outlet may be disconnected from the electrical power source based on detecting a failure of the individual to operate the switch within the time period and/or based on detecting a movement of the individual outside a boundary defined around the vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20240239143
Abstract: This disclosure generally pertains to systems and methods that guard against information piracy by selective activation of tire pressure sensor learning operations in a vehicle. An example method can include receiving, by a processor in a vehicle, a sensor signal from a wheel movement sensor provided in a wheel of the vehicle. The processor may evaluate the sensor signal and detect a tire-changing operation. The tire-changing operation may be detected, for example, based on a major surface of the wheel coming in contact with ground or determining that an angular displacement of a major surface of the wheel exceeds a threshold angle. The processor may then enable a learning mode of operation that can include a wireless pairing of a tire pressure sensor in the wheel to a tire pressure monitoring system of the vehicle. The processor disables the learning mode of operation after a period of time.
