  • Patent number: 6622834
Abstract: A hydrodynamic torque converter has a converter housing drivable in rotation by an engine, with an impeller. A turbine non-rotatably connected to an output shaft is hydrodynamically coupled to the impeller by way of a stator through an oil circuit. The turbine is axially slidably supported on the shaft. A friction surface on the turbine upon axial displacement of the turbine comes into frictional contact with a counterpart friction surface on the converter housing, thereby producing a lockup clutch effect. The turbine is also connected by way of springs to a coupling element arranged non-rotatably on the shaft. In an alternative configuration the turbine is arranged non-rotatably on the shaft and the lockup clutch action is by way of friction surfaces on a coupling element and on the converter housing. A torsion damper can be provided between the coupling element and the turbine.

  • Patent number: 5983852
Abstract: A housing cover for sealing a crankshaft housing includes a metal body having an end face adapted to face the flange surface on the crankshaft housing, with the metal body being provided with a plurality of holes for receiving attachment screws for attaching the housing cover to the crankshaft housing. A sealing strip is attached to the end face of the metal body. The sealing strip possesses an end face that is adapted to face the flange surface on the crankshaft housing. The end face of the sealing strip is configured to define at least one recess in the sealing strip, and a sealant is provided in the recess.

  • Patent number: 4543852
Abstract: A transmission mechanism in particular for automobiles with a front wheel drive comprises a planetary forward-reverse gear set and a continuously variable pulley drive that is drivingly connected to a differential gearing. A forward friction disk clutch provided for obtaining a forward driving direction of the transmission mechanism may be selectively operated by a servo piston that is fixedly connected in an axially stationary manner to the adjusting piston of a hydraulic adjusting means provided for the selective adjustment of the movable sheave of a primary pulley of said pulley drive whereby the mutual arrangement is chosen in such a manner that the adjusting cylinder being fixedly connected to this movable sheave at least partly surrounds the servo piston. By this particular arrangement the axial dimension of the entire transmission mechanism may be reduced without the requirement of a separate starting clutch for the entire clutch assembly.

  • Patent number: 4475445
Abstract: A housing for a heating or air conditioning unit for a motor vehicle is provided, which housing is disposed under the windshield at the middle of the vehicle and includes portions extending adjacent the lower or passenger foot region. This housing is provided with air outlet nozzles for directing warm (or cooled) air into the passenger foot region. The housing includes two upper housing parts separated by a separation plane extending perpendicular to the vehicle travel direction and a lower foot level housing part for the air outlets at the foot level. These three separate housing parts are form fittingly assembled together by slidably interengageable housing parts. With this arrangement, the foot level housing part can be assembled with the other housing parts without the need of additional work tools and is so integrated into the complete housing assembly that, with the slidable connection of the housing parts together, the foot level housing part is also securely and rigidly assembled.
